Hi all,
Me and the wife have been talking about moving out there and I wondered if there was anybody out there, in the same trade as me who could tell us what the work situations like.

Regards Steve

Hi Steve

I'm a fitter/turner to trade, and work in a small jobbing shop alongside welders/fabricators.Y'oull be picking the jobs mate, theres work a plenty.I'm told that out in western Aus,if you work at the mines, they pay $50 an hour.

You should also find that you'll be fast tracked with your skilled visa application,as engineering in general is high up the urgent list.

If I can be of any assistance, send me a message on here or at smithsinaus@hotmail.com

MEN ARE LIKE WINE. SOME TURN TO VINEGAR, BUT THE BEST IMPROVE WITH AGE.

Hi Gary,
Thanks for replying mate. It's great to know i would have my pick of well paid jobs if we get out there. Unfortunately after I placed the question on here, I filled some test skilled visa applications in, only to find my age is likely to be a problem. I've just turned 45. For the skilled visa route I have to be under 45. We're not giving up yet though as I have an aunty in Adelaide who has Aussy citizenship and may be able to sponsor us as relatives.
The thing is we're right at the start of the emigrating process and know nothing about it yet really. So any advice, comments or suggestions you have would be much appreciated.

Regards Steve

From what I know of family sponsored migration,it can be an expensive business. My folks have been making noises about emigrating to be with us.

You have to give the government a $10,000 bond which you get back after 10 years. You then need to buy into the medicare system, which is about $30,000.

Also, for a family member to qualify to sponsor you,the must show proof of earning $40,000 a year for a minimum of two years.

It aint easy, but I hope it works out for you
