Hi all...

We;re a family of 4, sorry to repeat here, but have posted a few messages with no response, so here goes...

We've got our permanent visas, before we got our visas, we visited Perth, Sydney, Brisbane and would you believe, we were then told that we had to live in Victoria, (the place we didn't visit - typical)

Anway, decided on Melbourne, then steve my partner went out on a recki in Nov for 10 days loved it but the house prices were scary and size of properties were not that impressive from here and to be honest, the prices were not that dissimilar to the UK.

Well after much consideration, we've changed our minds!!! yikes!!

We've chosen Geelong!! are we making a mistake, any advice is welcome..

We have 2 daughters, Albany 9 and Baylee 2.5, Albany typically girl enjoys, tap dancing, ballet, choir, swimming, etc, is there much of that in Geelong?

Also, if I do decide to find a job in CBD, is it a nightmare to get to? and what is the cost and travel time by car and train??

What are the pros and cons of each surburb, thanks in advance?

Hello, just seen your thread. Did you make it to Geelong after all? We are in Highton.

That's one of those questions that only you will know the answer to really.

If you like living there then you've made the right choice i guess?!

Personally we didn't like Corio, but some people do as there would be nobody living there  The rest of Geelong seems great though!

We opted for Lara, just outside of Geelong and love it.

Hi

we are over in Waurn Ponds and are really happy! We are 12 minutes from Bancoora beach and 15 mins from Torquay beach. Our children are all happy at local schools , 2 at primary and 2 at high school. We have friends in Belmont,Highton and Grovedale who all like their area's.
There are several sports centres around, again with swimming pools.Have seen a few adverts for dance lessons but can't say what they are like as it's not activity ours are into.
I don't go into Geelong that often , family meals out, occasional shopping but we do like going down there when organised events are on-like Skandia week, Australia day,New years day, and carols around the bay! All of these activities are child friendly and all are free! And when they do a firework display it's fabulous!
We are in the last road in Waurn ponds and we overlook meadows. We have a country feel but also close to amenities. We rented in Highton when we first arrived and made some super friends along the way but as we wanted to build our own house and have a bit of land with it we moved out to Waurn Ponds.
Any way take time to look around and get a feel for where you want to live....only you can make that choice and one benefit with renting is settling in and having a base with the option to looking around and seeing what there is out there and what is best for your family!
Same with schools have a visit at several and then you will know what one suits your family, and going into school with your daughter when she starts is a great way to meet new friends !
good luck with your choice,

Jane Bob and the mob
