Community Advertising; Now Accepting Banners

 After discussing the progress of the current Poll on the future of BritVics, including the issue of community banner adverts, Bordy has asked that I make this post to announce that we are now accepting Banner graphics from community businesses and groups for a trial of the community banner advertising.

During the trial, and probably after it too, there will be no fee for advertising your business as a banner graphic on the forum. However there are some requirements:

  2. The banner has to promote a community business aimed at helping or benefiting expats in Victoria.
  3. The advert can not be offensive or portray/promote any activity which is illegal here or in the United Kingdom.
  4. If anyone in the community objects to a given advert there will be a review of the advert and it may be removed.
  5. The banner must meet the technical requirements laid out below
  6. The business acknowledges that the rotation of the advertisement is purely random and that we hold no responsibility or liability for the number of times the advert is or isn't viewed per day.
  7. We reserve the right to refuse to advertise a company if we feel it does not comply with the spirit of these conditions for free community advertising
  8. We reserve the right to modify these requirements at the end of the trial.
  9. Lastly we ask that the advertiser should be an active member of the BritVics community. There is an Advertising section on the forum for people who only wish to post an occasional advert for their organisation.

The banner ads will currently be located at the bottom of the forum in place of the current example of rotating adverts.

The following is an example of the type of banner advert being accepted.

The image you provide to us must conform to the following technical and style requirements

  2. The image must be 470 pixels in width and 80 pixels in height
  3. The image must have 1 pixel wide solid black border
  4. The image must not be greater than 150Kb in size
  5. The image must be in either GIF, JPEG or PNG format
  6. The image must not be animated
  7. The image should not contain garish or loud colours. This is subjective but is there to avoid people putting shocking day-glo colours in which annoy readers.

Any banner graphics which do not meet these requirements will either be rejected or will be altered to comply, depending on how far from the requirements they are. A banner template, in Adobe Photoshop PSD format, has been made available to help you in creating your banner. So there is really no excuse for getting it wrong

Please PM me if you want to advertise, please briefly explain your business and how it assists expats in Victoria. Each application will then be considered upon receipt of a sample of the banner graphic.
