It was absolute crap and a complete shambles.
The beer run out within 2 hours and people were leaving in their droves.
I have heard a romour that some people went to the police and complained about fraud and false advertising
Its such a shame as it had the potential for being a huge success and a yearly event to look forward to. Friends of ours bought gold tickets for the day and the night but left at around 2.30 and didn't bother going back in the evening.
Oh well, we live & learn!!

Hello,

we didn't go to the UK fest. But by the sounds of it the organisers should be congratualted!

People have obviously forgotten what the UK is actually like and having been in Australia only for 6 months then by the sounds of it I don't know how such an authentic British style event was so well replicated over here where usually these sort of things run so smoothly.

The attention to detail in making the beer run out can only be applauded and only one of two options that the organisers had - the other being to turn it into a cheap tacky beerfest and allow the crowd to become unruly and end it all off with a huge fight!

Can't wait to sign up for next year as it will be a cheaper way of reminding me why I chose to move to Australia rather than having to stump up for an air fare and endure 48 hours of travelling!

What a flippin shame, though at least an attempt at such an event was made unlike here where we had er.. um.. actually nothing! It's such a shame when someone has what is essentially a good idea and, I'm sure, lots of people have put a helluva lot of work into it. I've been party to organising a large event that bombed (it was outdoors and it peed it down all day!), and it was soul destroying. Lets hope they aren't put off doing another event but take on board where they went wrong and advertise like mad.
Letting the beer run out is, however, unforgiveable!

Yes I agree that is a shame, sorry to those who were so dissappointed, but I agree at least they attempted to organise something, seems you can not please everyone

Did anyone on here actually go, what did you think !!!!!!!

So were refunds offered to those who bought tickets to this event ? Have the organisers made a statement about the event ?

With allegations of fraud being thrown about it really must have tanked, rather than merely been poorly organised.

I'm sure we'll get it from the horses mouth, seeing as though the guy who was organising it posted about it on here. (well, i'm pretty sure he was one of the organisers as he seemed to know a lot about it etc!)

As far as we know HARVS was one of the organisers who worked for Peninsula Events. His last post was a week ago announcing the Gold Tickets for the event. I hope he does come on and give there side of it. They offered a couple of tickets as a prize for BritVics members in return for some information about he types of beers we would like to see there.

Hi Guys

Ok so i'm feeling brave, your all asking what it was like so I will give my honest opinion - sorry those who don't like it.
Myself & OH have been here a month and convinced our friends to come with us on Saturday, we were looking forward to it as the adverts looked great.
It cost $20 each to get into the event - and from what was advertised ......covent garden market with gift & jewelery stalls, on stage entertainment etc etc it looked as if it was going to be a good day out- but as someone has already said, shambles.

There were food stalls (2 or 3) another stall selling treats from home, walkers crisps, etc and a stall selling candy floss & waffles. NAB had a stall & a new housing development (UKFEST!!!) So no C.G.M.

The bar was just a hatch in the main hall - far from the images shown on the website. I know how expensive it is to get thing's shipped over from the UK but $8 for a can of beer is a bit steep.
The on stage entertainment for the first 2 hours was crap - can't comment on the rest of it as we left.

On the way out we complained, asked where all the stalls were & that we felt it was falsly advertised, how could they justify charging $20 & when we got asked why we thought it was false advertising we said the website says there was a 'three lions bar' and it is nothing like shown in the photos & my response was.....'you didn't seriously expect it to be like that did you?' OMG
We were refused a refund & got shocking customer service when trying to ask questions & got escorted away by security - Two 5" girls, bloody hell we must be scary!

Please can others say if I am over reacting or if they had a good day out?

Jo :no way:

Flippin heck, this is the sort of event you expect back here! $8 for a can of beer - what's that all about! Bet you felt like nipping out to Safeway. It's even worse when you've invited people to come with you too as you feel a bit responsible. Doesn't sound like you are speaking out, just speaking the truth - nothing wrong with that. From what I hear of Oz gatherings I don't think this is indicative of usual events.

Hello

I agree with Joanna's comments it was a complete shambles. Once we had paid to get in I thought "oh well we're here now, so might as well make the most of it" So looking at the organised events we had games and the pub quiz to look forward too .....but none of them look place!

We did however meet two couples who were from our neck of the woods back in the UK, so we enjoyed a chat over an expensive can of John Smith!

We won't be going next year!

So, to sum up the comments from the various forums

  • $20-$25 ticket price paid
  • A fee to park your car
  • $8 for a beer
  • The "Three Lions Bar" was a hole in the wall, not the advertisited
  • 2-3 stalls selling products "from the UK" (were these from the "Treats From Home" type shops or just a heap of stuff shipped in for the event?)
  • Then NAB bank selling accounts to Poms (did they have to pay to have a stall?)
  • A Property Developer trying to flog new homes to Poms (did they have to pay to have a stall?)
  • Best of British food was mostly curry (well they got that right)
  • The Pub and Quiz other games didn't happen
  • Morris Dancers
  • People who complained and asked for a refund were laughed at and man handled by security
  • Questions about where the money raised is going

I must say that when this was all first mentioned we both looked at each other and asked why this is a ticketed event. Most things like this that are run in Melbourne are paid for by sponsorship and by the vendors that have stalls. They are generally not something you pay to get into.

Well.....in my humble opinion....the organisers should be lined up against the wall and shot for that inclusion alone.

Don't know why everyone is complaining, it was a "UK Fest", seems like you got what you paid for, a little slice of Rip Off Britain.....8 bones for a can of John Smiths....puhleeze. ;)

That's what we couldn't understand either.

I was chatting to someone yesterday who went. They said there was a comedian on stage a few stalls and hardly any people so they left.

All of the above is very true BUT the thing that left me and many others completely gobsmacked was the pub quiz, it had a section called disasters and asked ...........which port did the herald of free enterpise leave from, which football ground did 98 Liverpool fans get crushed to death and what was Piper Alpha.
I found this really inapropriat and offensive!! Why would anyone want to reminde people of these awfull events and to trivialise them in a quiz!!
That was about the only complaint of the day that didn't go unheard as we were with a family from Liverpool who did demand that the questions were removed/changed but by the time this had appened we had all left any way.

Hi all

I haven't been on britvics for ages but having been to the UK Fest on Sunday i wanted to see what others thought. It was the worst event I've ever been to,in fact I've been to much better church fairs. The 'pub' and food was apalling and the pathetic number of stalls was embarassing. I don't normally make a fuss but I've emailed
Peninsula Events to complain.I haven't had a reply and don't expect to but I certainly won't be going to one of their 'events' again.
