hello,
We are coming over to Victoria in August 08 ( 7 weeks) and i just wanted to enquire if anyone knew the options for my 16 year old son.(17 in december) who has just taken his gsce's in uk.
He is interested in doing an apprenticeship in building and construction, but maybe combining this with part time school if possible. Does anyone have any further info on his options if any or any advice on where i could get further info. thanks in advance.

Hi,

There are lots of courses that your son could do. From what the Year 11 and Year 12's at my school tell me (I am a teacher) getting apprenticeships is not always easy here. I often hear the careers teacher telling the students to do more courses until they are 18 and can get their license. Apparently, employers offering apprenticeships prefer those who can drive!
There are lots of TAFE courses, here is a link to one at Box Hill TAFE:http://www.bhtafe.edu.au/Courses/BAB21.htm

Swinburne and Holmesglen are other big TAFE colleges: A full list is here: http://www.aa-education.com/tafe-victoria/

Good luck !

Tricia
