We are just about to do the same thing, we arrived here in december on a 457 visa. Did you need to re-do medicals?? did you need to get a police check certificate? |

I think so but we are still waiting on the migration agent to let us know if city and guilds is a recognised qualification in Oz if not we will have wait until we have been here for 2 years. The agency is called Fragomen global has anyone had dealings with them?? |

Hi, I depends on the medicals you had for the 457 and how long back they were. If you had full meds less than 12 months back you will be ok, if you only had the chest xrays for the 457 then you will need to do the meds... Police checks are the same, if you had them done less than 12 months back you are ok, if not you will need to get them. Fragomen were the company that looked after our visa application and they were top notch, if our experience was anything to go by you are in good hands. Cheers  |

City and Guilds is recognised in Oz, so you should be OK. I have just had my trade skills assessed by TRA with a positive outcome. |

Hiya, We have had our PR now for a couple of months, it took about a month in total to process. This month also included some additional medical exams following the initial medical so held it all up about 2 wks, so if that hadn't happened our visa would have been issued within 2 weeks. The Melbourne office seem pretty quick as long as your application is complete. We used all the same paperwork for the ENS as for the 457, just included the new contract for OH job (the sponsoring job!), UK police checks and form 80. OH didn't need a skills assessment as he is a nurse so his vic nursing registration served that purpose, otherwise we would have needed to include a positive skills assessment. OH and kids didn't have new medicals as they had had full medicals in the UK within 12mths of the application being processed. I needed a full medical and new xray as I only had xray for our 457. We didn't use an agent, the application was really straightforward, so we saved a heap of cash. The hardest thing is making sure all of the docs are enclosed and everything that needs to be certified has been! A bit of a headache, but not difficult. Once it is lodged, the case officers at the business centre are also really helpful and easy to get hold off if you have a question. Good luck! Sarah |

Posted 05 February 2009 09:21 PM I have now been out in Melbourne for 9 weeks today and before i start i wanna say i am plaesed im ere.. But i have come out on a 457 and hubby loves his job and they are over the moon with him. For me tho i cant get a job for love or money even in a supermarket. I went for a interview on Thursday for a Traineeship no age limit great and it would bring in the bucks and i get a new career. Nope im not allowed on the visa that i have. Not happy as my older son who is 17 wanted to do a traineeship also in a bakers or would love to get a trade cant either so he said he wants to go back home He is finding it really hard ere as he also suffers with Atypical Autism and ontop of that we found out that there is an agency who help with (Autism)ie find him a job or help him with study etc they got back to us saying cant help on the visa you are on. So im stuck i need help and soon if not we will be going back to th UK. I have been told that we could look at doing a pr visa for two years . If anyone can help me i would love to here from you Thank you |

Hi there, sorry to hear the troubles you are having. I was fearful of the same thing but luckily managed to find a job very easily. We only had our 457 visa for 1 year and managed to change over to our PR before that visa expired but when I was employed I only had 6mths left to run on the visa. However, I did not find this visa an impediement to finding a job so the visa in itself should not be a problem. Maybe the people you are liasing with do not fully understand the type of visa you have? Have they explained to you what their concerns/Issues are? Do you have to pay fees with traineeships? If so, that may be the issue there. When I applied for my job I the visa did not actually come up but I did explain that it was our intention to apply for PR and where here to stay. PM me if you would like to chat about this anymore. Good luck x |
