Kaola Street Area of Belgrave; Looks nice - is it?

Hiya

The Kaola Street area of Belgrave looks like it would be really nice. Easy walk to town and the station (if you ignore the hills!) and it sits between Lysterfield Lake Park and Sherbrooke Forest Park. That's without even thinking about all the smaller parks and reserves nearby.

Does anyone know this area at all? Is it as nice as it looks on GoogleMaps? What are the houses in the area like? Would YOU live there?

Answers ASAP please because they will assist in important decision making (and one woman's campaign of badgering her husband into renting the house she wants...)

Anyone who has gone to bed and lives in that area, please wake up and reply!

Thank you all in advance,
Alistair's missus

Dont know the street you mention, but Belgrave itself is quite a nice little town in general. It can get a bit feral at night, but they have an excellent cinema down the main street, with some very nice bars & restaurants as well for in the evenings, and plenty of shops for your daily shopping. Good safeway, bakers, butchers etc etc, and a number of decent schools in the local area (if you have kids of course)

It is a pretty alternative town in general, very flower power and even has its own town wizard

We stayed in Belgrave in a rental for a few weeks only before we moved into our new place, and did like the place, but as you can already see, its pretty hilly. We live in Monbulk just down the road, and definitely prefer Monbulk to Belgrave, but thats just personal. Monbulk is smaller, much more spread out, and very much more of a village than a small town.

If you interested in short term rental for 2-3 people in Monbulk to look around the area before you commit yourselves to something without knowing the area, send me a PM.

That sums up Belgrave pretty well but don't let it put you off. Its as good a place as any to start off & look around other suburbs to see what suits yourself.

We also stayed in Belgrave for a little while when we first moved here, its a very 60s / 70s little town but not the worst place to stay by any means.

LOL, does it actually have its own wizard, your kidding :ugh:

Although bordy, did you know ayr has a head witch (cant remember the thing they call it, the witch on buffy was one), and they have a shrine thing in the tunnels under the ground in edinburgh, apparently they gather there to help keep the ghosts there under control :ugh:

and the reason i know this is,i saw it, when we went on the 'auld reekie tour', in edinburgh

sorry, i'll shut up now with my useless information :bashful:

Depends what he's wearing at the time, but quite often you would think it was Dumbledore from Harry Potter.

Ayr always was a weird place Mags :$

I did the the tour of Mary Kings close in Edinburgh that was awesome.

The old wizard of Belgrave is always wandering around, if you drive through Belgrave chances are you will see him.

He looks like a slightly old biker crossed with a hill billy (the non-deliverance kind)!

Seriously though, a small town that's a bit 60s/70s ish and flower powery is probably our kind of place. Sounds good having lots of stuff nearby, especially the cinema which we wouldn't have expected, and we're interested in the schools because we do have a daughter (although at 3 months she's a wee bitty too wee for school yet!).

A bit worried about the 'feral' comment though! Any further clarification on that one?

PS we like Monbulk but need to be near a train station as Alistair is commuting to Melbourne CBD and are unlikely to have a car for a while.

Belgrave is a really nice little town/village, but there are a few strange folk living there, and shopping at Safeways at 9/10pm at night is definitely an experience. I would defeinitely NOT go out in Belgrave on a full moon t night

Seriously though, Tecoma & Belgrave or maybe even Upwey are all very nice area's to live.

If you guys are in the area, feel free to drop. More than welcome for a cuppa or beer and we can hopefully give you some advice.

A local real estate agent that might be worth speaking to is Joseph Licciardi in Kallista. As real estate agents go, he is actually very good. (as real estate agent go)

http://www.mre.net.au/index.html

He might be able to give you some advice.

Paul.
