Hi Everyone, Just received my skilled independent visa and looking at settling in Melbourne. I am finishing a 22 year career in the Army as a Vehicle Mechanic and really fancy a lifestyle change. The wife, Lisa is a teaching assistant at a primary school and is qualified to NVQ 3 In Childhood early development and Teaching Assistant. (Is that worth anything in Australia!!) I am a qualified HGV and Light Mechanic and have Health and Safety, Environmental protection, and Air con Technician quals. Anybody in a like position that knows where there may be any jobs going? I originally focussed on Tasmania but jobs are very sparse and after 3 visits I have deciced to look further afield. Melbourne looks great so I will be carrying out a reccie with wife and kids in Mar 09. Kids are 7 and 14 so decent schools are a priority. I will look at as many areas whilst I am visiting and then ask you good folks for advice if you don't mind. Moving from rainy, cold Bedfordshire and looking forward to my last Christmas in UK. Merry Christmas to you all and see you all soon. Rich and Lisa Gostellow  PS Is there a British Legion Branch in Melbourne |

Welcome to Britvics..hope you find the site of some use As for the British Legion, as you probably know the the organisation that runs things for ex servicemen is the RSL (Returned Service League) they have a bit of clout here as ex diggers ae treated with quite a bit of respect in Australia, and when the last president was chosen it made front page news here...not sure about the exact rules for qualifying to join ( family members of ex servicemen can join) but they have a good website |
