Thanks Guys. To cap off a wondrous month (not!) our youngest son knocked himself out in the park today and ended up in Sandringham A and E all day. He was discharged an hour ago but has vomited all the way home in the car. <<sigh>> Surely things must start to get better soon?!

Hi All,

Well, Andrew came home last night for a 6 day rest between his chemo cycles. He slept really well in his own bed and feels like a new man. He now needs to rest before heading back in on Easter Monday, to begin it all over again. I think that he will go in feeling a bit stronger as he now knows what to expect and knows all of the medical jargon. Hopefully, the Alfred may feel a little more familiar this time round.

I survived the move to our new home on Friday, only to have my youngest boy shatter the french windows in the rental on Day 2 (Thanks so much to Denton44 - Andy- for his DIY talents in patching up the mess. It's still there...you've done too good a job to incentivise me to repair it!!).

It feels great to be finally settled in the rental, with one less stress to panic about. Now I can concentrate on Andrew again. Hevs, I will pm you shortly as I have a few questions for you. Our phone line was only connected this morning and I'm back in the heady world of dial-up!

Thank you for all of your lovely support xx

Sending positive vibes and hope Andrew is feeling well and strong at the moment (and yourself!). Cannot imagine how horrible this situation is for you at the moment but at least you have got your SIL out to give you a hand.

All the best

Hi there

Glad to hear Andrew is feeling a little better now. As you say I guess he'll know what to expect for the next batch.

Can't be easy trying to move, hubby in hospital and then dealing with a broken window!

Hope you manage to enjoy Easter whilst he is at home. Good luck for Monday.

KK

p.s. is he allowed to eat chocolate....hope so as biting the head of a chocolate bunny usually cheers you up!

Trust all continues to go well with your man.

I have had a bit of a health scare of late, some rather alarming tests and procedures at the Alfred (all is now fine) and I thought it might be good for all to know what a wonderful group of people we have at the Alfred and what a tremendous job they do. All we hear so often is politicians scoring points and plain bitching, the reality appears to a whole lot better.

Good luck; he's in great hands.

I agree my daughter had her radiation at the Alfred and they were very good. Cannot fault her care at the Monash Medical Centre, or Moorabbin where she had her chemo. Her doctors are wonderful and always there for her if ever she needs them, they do everything for her, make her MRI appointments, her appointments at the brain cancer clinic. Excellent treatment. No health insurance. She is also type 1 diabetic so has been a patient of Monash for many many years now.

Just spotted that this thread had resurfaced - thanks for all the good wishes.

Andrew has now finished his chemotherapy after three intensive cycles - YAY! He came out of hospital, after four months as an in-patient, looking like a skeleton and feeling like crap. He is now half the way through his radiotherapy and is looking more like the guy I know. Still bald, but not half as thin!

He had two more weeks of radiation to go and then the treatment is reduced to PET scans and regular scanning to see if there is any sign of the tumour returning. We are not sure as yet how long it will be before Andrew is declared cancer-free but are taking every day as it comes.

As a result of this illness Andrew has decided that he wants to move back to the UK, to be nearer his family. I am disappointed with this as I'm really happy here, but I can understand why he wants to settle nearer his folks. The flights have been booked for November so we still have plenty of time to change our minds if needs be.

The staff at the Alfred are bloody amazing and we are forever grateful to those people who donate blood - Andrew has had shedloads over the past few months and would not have been able to survive without people's donations. Also, all those lovely people who donate money to the cancer council and similar charities so that the research into different cures can happen. Andrew's cancer was fatal ten years ago and it would have been a different ending.

Hi Jakestar

Glad to hear that Andrews treatment is doing well, I'm glad you put an update on as I was wondering how he was getting on.

Shame he wants to move back to the UK but then I guess with a wake up call like he's had then life is too short - just hope that you all manage to settle back again.

Good luck with the rest of the treatment.

Hi Jakestar

What a terrible ordeal you've both been through. I hope you've got someone to help look after you as I know the carer ends up wearing themselves out too.

I can fully understand Andrew's need to move home. When you've had a shock like this you want to be close to your nearest and dearest.

I would love to give blood but unfortunately they won't take British blood for fear of mad cow disease.

I wish your family all the best and hope Andrew continues to be cancer free.

As others have said, good news about your OH and understandable that a serious health scare makes him rethink where he wants to be. Hope he continues to recover and stays clear, and good luck with whatever happens in the future.

So pleased that your husband is now on the road to recovery and can understand how he feels about home and being near his folks. Its a scary road. I have only recently been told by my daughter how scared she really was.

The thing about cancer is the longer you can survive the more treatments come on line that is what my daughter's oncologist told her and there have been a lot of new treatments for brain cancer in the five years since she was diagnosed. According to the Mayo Clinic if you survive brain cancer for 15 years then you are clear. She has a way to go. Only good thing I can think of about brain cancer is that you no secondary cancer occurs anywhere else as long as the primary is in the brain.

Hi Jakestar

Thanks for the update and I am so pleased that Andrew's treatment is going well - what a nightmare of an ordeal for you all.

Good luck with your future plans. We too have wanted to give blood out here and have been told we can't and the cancer charities have a special place in my heart too.

With very best wishes

Mandy and Family
