Hi! Been here just over 3 months and am still really enjoying it and know we've made the 'right' decision for us as as family but I am feeling a bit lost just now! Have started to look for a little part-time job so that I can earn a bit and also meet new people but trying to find something to fit in with the boys who are at primary school is really hard - I knew it would be so will just have to keep looking. I have read loads of threads on here over the last 8 months about people who are homesick or who are questioning it all so I keep telling myself it will just take time. It's not that I am really homesick..... I just miss my friends and people a bit like me!! So, I live over in Brighton just now so if you are fairly nearby and would like to meet up at a cafe for a coffee and chat, let me know. Mandy |

Hi Mandy I lived in Brighton until last year so I could have met you! I know exactly what you mean as I've never been homesick, homesick but really missed my chums (still do!) and people who just "know" you! I can't think of anyone at home during the day who lives near you, the Apes are in Hampton so they might give you a shout. Do you have wheels and could find your way to Berwick as you'd be most welcome at the book swap get together - it's about 50 mins from Brighton. If not then hopefully someone reading this will meet up with you. I might be up your way next week....if so PM me your number and I'll give you a shout if I am! Bye for now KK |

Hi Mandy, I know exactly how you feel as really miss my friends as well. As KoalaKim says, there is a meeting up at Moods in Berwick hopefully next week (its under Pinned Book Club on the Homepage) so if you can make your way to Berwick it would be great to see you. I can pick you up from the railway station if that is any help, just pm me. Hope to see you there, Gill |

Hi Mandy :waving: Glad to hear you're settling in ok! I know what you mean about feeling lost, thats exactly how I felt when my son started school last year. Luckily I had already made a couple of great friends through Britvics and without them I think I would have gone mad  I can relate with the job hunting too. It is really hard to find work around school, especially if you don't really want to work evenings or weekends. I've recently started selling Avon.....I'm never going to be rich but it gets me out of the house and gives me a bit of pocket money aswell as meeting people. Unfortunately I'm a bit far from you in Pakenham but we could always meet up somewhere in the middle if you fancy it. Take care and hopefully see you sometime soon. Debb x |

Thanks for the messages everyone - not sure if up to driving that far down the highway just yet to the book meet next week but will give it some thought - or maybe at your next meet up. Still getting used to the driving and roads out here!!!! - have done Brighton to Southlands shopping centre and back LOL - pathetic I know but taking it slowly!!! Thanks for all the encouragement - its really reassuring to know others have felt the same. Mandy |

Hi Mandy.....I'm in Aspendale and know where Southlands is.....actually I was up there today! My hubby works in Sandingham and tbh I'm feeling really homesick at the mo. It would be lovely to meet up, my youngest goes to occasional care on a Mon, Thurs, Fri so if you fancy meeting up without the kids let me know. Laura xx |

I live in Port Melbourne too. I'd love to meet up but I work full time and don't get to meet any other mothers for coffee. My kids are in after school care so I don't even get a playground chat. I work with all men so girly chats are out at work too. Maybe we could organise a girls night out in the city one day. I haven't tried to organise one as most people live so far out and I didn't think they'd be any takers. Cheers Gail |

Hi Gail I don't get girly chats at work either as OH doesn't do office chat very well then I'm on my own at the moment so only my stuffed Koala to talk to! I did go to one organised by Sharon (Shazzamac) when I first arrived and met a few girls but it was so noisy in the pub we couldn't really hear each other! So the trick is to find somewhere reasonably quiet for a natter. I'm down in Mornington but I'd come up for a night out if someone else from this area wants to go as don't fancy driving back by myself or on the train to Frankston....arghh!! I'm away for the next couple of months but after August is fine! KK |

Kim Maybe we should meet in Brighton for a drink as they've got some quiet bars and it's not as far to travel for you and some of the others down your way. Gail |

Hi I can't believe the response I have had - this site is great - talk about rallying around! I am up for a night out - could do Brighton. I also drove down Centre Road at Benleigh the other day - haven't stopped there yet but imagine there are some bars (hopefully quieter ones). Was only thinking of Benleigh as I think it is the Frankston Train Line. I will do some investigating on bars locally and over in Benleigh. Am happy to do city also but agree would need to find somewhere quiet-ish! So, in the city tomorrow we have visitors over from Canberra for a couple of days but will get onto it next week. Thanks everyone for all your support - had a much better week this week and know it will just take a bit of time. Mandy |

Hi Mandy, :waving: Fancy a girlie get together myself, could do with a good natter, have been trying to arrange a girlie lunch maybe in the city, or happy to meet in Bentleigh. I live in Mordialloc not far from you and can recommend the sports bar, quiet and has a nice view over looking the sea, so if anyone fancies that I could always book a table for us all? Also on the Frankston Train Line. Cheers Julie. |

I wonder if Julie's would be the best option first as its a bit more central for most? I can see it is going to be really difficult to try and arrange a lunch, coffee or night out that is going to suit everyone! I haven't driven past Southlands yet but as its still on the Nepean Highway I am sure I can do it! LOL. So how about the week after next? Week beginning Monday, 1st June? So if you can make lunch at Mordialloc one lunch time - state you preferred day - all except Tues is good for me just now. Let's hope this works! Mandy PS The last couple of weeks since my original post have been really hectic - typical! I know its just going to take time and going to have to take the rough with the smooth!! :flower: |

Hi All, Not sure if a Bayside girlie get together happened? - if so I hope you had fun. I have been in Elwood for 7 months now (with 2 year old and OH) and recently started work up in the city and everything seems to be slowly falling into place. But I miss my friends and could do with a night out or two! Does anyone fancy meeting up after work in town? or a glass of wine in Brighton of an evening.......or any other suggestions. Hannah |

Hi Girls Been here since April and straight into work full-time so can say I am desperate also for a girlie chat, it would be great to meet you all. Not used to full time work within a full-on job so most days I am some-what 'cream crackered' so my spare time is getting about locally (templestowe, etc) and sleep. So this will be something for me to look forward to. This will lift my spirits --------so lets all lift our glasses ------------for me its best lunch-time or evening at the weekend, where-ever. Fingers are crossed. Jillie |

I have just seen the thread I started a while ago on here again! I did try and organise a coffee morning but it didn't really take off - I know its really hard to sort something that will suit most. I am up for a drink - not sure where though. I am in Brighton and try and ask a couple of locals later to suggest best place for a drink locally - unless anyone has any suggestions. Would be good to have a good old chat! Mandy |
