AUSSIE INTERNET IS FUBAR
I went to see the new Star Trek movie yesterday, and have to say Ive not been so thoroughly entertained by a movie in such a long time.

Before I go on, I'm not a die hard trekkie. I loved the original series as a kid, and read alot of the novels based on the original series in my teens . As for everything after that, its very hit an miss.

I wont do any plot spoilers here, but to be honest the plot itself isnt that important. They have cleverly designed it as a re boot of the original series, and while making a few changes to Trek lore, they havent stayed that wildly of the beaten track.

This film is just so FUN !!! thankfully they have done away with treknobabble to hold the story together, and went for all out action. This really is a rollercoaster of a ride.

While the action scenes are very good, its really the casts portrayal of such well known original characters that makes this such a winner -

Kirk -(Chris Pine) Great performance all round. While he is recognisable as Kirk, there is little of Shatner present, apart from a couple of lines where he is intentionly taking him off which is funny

Spock - (Zachary Quinto) I dont think he quite nailed Nimoys spock, but my god what a likeness of the young Spock

McCoy - (Karl Urban) - WOW ! Bang on to Defrost Kellys McCoy . He's got the look, the brash dialogue. I would say he probably steals the show.

Scott - ( Simon Pegg ) An englishman playing Scott !!! Pegg is an amazing choice. Probably looks the least like his original character, but every time he opens his mouth its bloody hilarious.

I could go on but this post is getting big enough already.

Will just finish on Props, sets and wardrobe. The Enterprise is recognisable from the outside, but the interiors probably closer to The Next Generation than the original series, which is not a bad thing. Costumes are pretty good, even down to the chicks in mini skirts. I also laughed to see those in "red shirts" are still doomed !

All in, no matter if your a casual fan of trek, somewhere in between, or hard core, this film is tops, go see it .

Had to re-read that post twice looking for the gag or who was going to get a pineapple shoved up their jacksie. No jokes, no pineapples -bloody hell, must have been a good movie

I am a die hard Trekker and I loved it. Saw it on Friday on my own and again on Saturday with the family.

Zach Quinto it Spock. Period. Chris Pine took on the humour of Kirk perfectly and the rest of the cast was simply outstanding.

I'm sort of still waiting for the punchline, the bit were people stop praising it and start slagging it off. The films never really captured the essence of the shows in my view. Perhaps First Contact was the closest. This was simply excellent.

Not Star Trek TOS, but as JJ said himself a reimagining of the show. Bringing it into the the 21st Century.

Outstanding work.

For all its been pretty fantastic, it makes me wonder if they can do it again for the inevitable sequel.

I think it worked through edge of your seat action, and a well picked cast and script. The plot itself was pretty forgetable.

I just wonder what the hook will be after this .
