Hi I have lived in Melbourne for 2+ years. My OH was offered a job so we decided to make the move. We have 4 children aged 6,8,14,15 who have all settled really well. My OH loves his job, the kids love their school and i am not working at the moment. The first 3 months was really hard. We were put in a unit in Glen Waverley for about a month and had the nightmare task of looking for somewhere to live......what suburb do we go to???? After speaking to colleagues at hubbys work we made a list of no go suburbs and suburbs that were nice, so we visited them all. The hardest thing for us was finding a suburb that fitted all our needs as a family - not too isolated, busy but not too busy, easy access to main roads/freeways, easy access to shopping malls, public transport if needed, not too near the city......etc the list goes on. We decided to rent a house in Rowville and get kids settled in school..... we all settled so well that we have now purchased our own home and would not move anywhere else. Since being here my OH father became ill and passed away which took us back to the UK. As soon as we got back we realised that we had made the right decision to emigrate. We loved catching up with family and friends and i miss them really bad, i am having a bad couple of weeks now where i want to go back and see my family, but i know as soon as i get there i will want to come back and i know my feelings will change as all you moms out there would know!! Its just too expensive to go back. Going back to the Uk was great, the biggest thing for me would be the clothes & shoe shopping i found it so much cheaper and really enjoyed eating the foods that i missed, but on the whole it was a holiday and was glad to get back to my home in Melbourne. Since being here we really enjoy going to all the reserves, parks, the wildlife is fab, the weather is great, everyone is friendly ..........the list goes on. As a new member it has been great being able to read some of your stories, if there is anyone who lives near me and fancy meeting up for a coffee, let me know.. Sharon |

Hi Shazy, welcome to Britvics. We also started out in Rowville 10 years ago but now live in Ferntree Gully. Watch out for posts about meet ups. Newbies are always welcomed by us old timers. |

Welcome to Britvics Shazy, We're still in the planning stages of our emigration (est: 2nd half of 2010) so are researching possible suburbs in which to live. Will certainly have a look at Rowville on Google. We have kids currently aged 3, 16 and 17 so are looking for somewhere with a good primary school and also college access. Our 17 yr old will probably be living in Glen Waverley so Rowville wouldnt be too far from her. All the best Paul |

Hi Sharon It was great to read your post, we've been wondering if there were many Brits around these parts. We've been in Rowville for 10 weeks with our 3 children who are 8, 6 and 3. The boys have settled really well into their school and we've been trying out a few playgroups in the area for my daughter. We first came over in September 2007 and went straight to Brisbane as my Hubby has family there but unfortunately we didn't settle at all for various reasons. So we thought we'd give Melbourne a try as we have friends in Glen Waverley but after struggling to find a half decent rental we ended up in Rowville. It would be good to get to know some people around here so if you fancy meeting up for a coffee that would be great and you can tell me all the good and bad things about life here! Hope to hear from you soon. Catherine :waving: |

Hi Paul, Good Luck with your move over here, hope it all goes to plan. I bet you and your family can't wait. I would suggest you have a look at all the suburbs you are intrested in when you get here and pick which one you like the best, everyone likes where they live its just what suits you and your family. All the best sharon :waving: |

Hi Chris There are quite a few Britvicers around Berwick so I'm sure someone will take up your offer! Otherwise please do come along to the book swap meet we do every 6 weeks as we have that in Berwick. It's nothing high-brow just a chat, coffee, yummy cake and if you want to swap a few novels you can. We've just had one last week but look out for the next one in a few weeks time, we pin it so you shouldn't miss it! Kim |
