Hi All, Just been scouring through looking for even more helpful advice and spotted an update post. Just realised we have been here over 9 months!! (We arrived 25 August last year) Can't believe the time has gone by so quickly and that living here just feels like we've been here forever.
'We' is; me (Ann), OH - Ste and our 2 youngest lads; Brett 21 and Ryan 19. We have been so lucky that apart from a few minor hiccups, the move has been trouble free. Ste had a job lined up before we arrived which included a relocation package - much less stress! The lads are both settled into uni at Ballarat and loving every minute of it. I've managed to find a part-time teaching position and hopefully with a bit of relief teaching too I can stop being a 'lady of leisure' - fed up with that after 9 months!!
Only major hiccup is we haven't sold our house in the UK and have had to rent it out (which took 5 months to sort). We knew where we wanted to settle (Macedon Ranges) but couldn't find anywhere the right size when we arrived so ended up in renting in Sunbury. (Needed good rail links for Ste to get into the city)
Good news is, we have just bought a house in Gisborne (our dream house with a pool) and are planning to move in at the end of August. It will be good to get a bit of countryside around us and get out of the suburbs at last. We couldn't believe how quickly house buying can be over here - 2 weeks from first offer to everything being unconditional (finance included)! When would that happen in the UK!
I keep waiting for the home sickness to kick in or to start missing things from the Uk (familly and friends exculded of course) but it doesn't seem to have happened - really put the jinx on it now hey! :mah:
Anyway just thought I'd let new arrivals and those waiting to arrive know that although it's scary as hell, there's light at the end of the tunnel. My advice - go with the flow and just keep smiling. :waving:
