Well, today we have celebrated our 1st year in Aus.
Overall it's gone extremely well. We still have our house in UK, unfortunately, as the prices have dropped too much for us to sell.
Because of this we are renting here and we have moved into our new rental in Rosebud, which is 3kms from work for me, which is handy considering I've been a naughty boy and been pinched for speeding :haveit: 1st time over the speed limit and I did an imitation of The Stig and rightly got my arse kicked, oh well........
The kids have settled into school really well and are loving it here. I don't think a day goes by without them having some kind of activities. Swimming, horse riding, cubs, girl guides, singing lessons, auskick, the list goes on.....
Have met some lovely friends down here, and life on the peninsula is truly magical, a great place to live, with the beautiful beaches and golf course and Melly only 1 hour away.
Love going into the city but wouldn't want to live there.
Have seen endless games of footy, cricket, went to the tennis and GP and will be seeing Tiger in November. Actually had the greenkeeper of Kingston Heath in my shop today and he assures me he'll arrange the best time to meet the man himself
Been to many concerts, highlights being The Who, Madness and The Charlatans. Can't believe how easy it is to buy tickets here!

Do I miss UK??
Well I miss my rellies and stay in touch with friends and family via skype so it's not too bad.
Life here is too good to want our old life back and we spend much more time together as a family, which is what we always really wanted.
My goals for the next year are to save enough money so we can put a deposit down on our own place as we feel this will be the final piece in the jigsaw.

Overall, Aus isn't perfect [what is?] but it certainly beats what we had and it's onwards and upwards from now on

I agree. That pretty much sums up the last 2.5 years for us. A very well constructed and honest post.

Australia is so much easier to become part of when you immerse yourself in it's culture and don't rely on being an Englishman abroad..

Glad all is going well.

Ditto the above comments - we've been here almost 6 months and we have really embraced it and it so beats what we had before.

Congratulations to you all - and onwards and upwards

Nice one mate - a year eh!

I think you summed it up pretty well there - you just need to get stuck into it I think. Lets hope the following years are even better for you.

Thanks guys for all the nice comments.

Just had our 1st offer on the house in UK for a year. £190,000, which is £60k less than what we sold stc over ayear ago.
I'm willing to take a drop but they are taking the piss!
TBH just want to cut all ties with UK and buy a house over here, but I'm not going to give it away.....
