I've applied to the NBV and the reg fee has been taken out of my account but what happens next? Do I get sent a registration card like I do here in the UK or do I get confirmation when we come over? Just curious as I've had no correspondance from them to date.

A phenomenon
same as u.k, you will get a brown envelope with various booklets, the first year you get an a4 size certificate of registration, subsequent years is a little card like the u.k one, unlike u.k the registration fee is due each dec, you get to march to pay, but they will hit you with a late fee.

Also like the u.k registration of a nurse can be checked on-line.

As mags has said,
i have the A4 certificate, it took 8-12 weeks all up including the fee taking. Can't remember how long after the fee went though though! :bashful:

Quick update for you - I got home from work today to find an envelope from the NBV. I got all exited thinking it would be a letter welcoming me to the world of Aussie nursing but no. Having taken my money they've sent my form back to me as I'd stupidly thought outside the box and documented my post reg work experience on a separate sheet! The reason I did this is because I've had more that 6 post reg jobs (which was the space available on the form) in the last twenty years!
Is it worth contact them to explain this?

Its worth phoning, at least they can tell you how to fill it out so they will accept it!
Good luck,

I've decided to just do what they ask asnd resubmit the bits they weren't happy with. I've also got to get another letter from HR because they want written clarification that I am still employed as a nurse because my current role doesn't have the word 'nurse' in it - only Chlamydia Screening Coordinator. So count to ten and off I go again! :thunder:

Just a quick update - I finally recieved my Div 1 registration certificate yesterday fom NVB - it's been nearly a year since I applied. What a relief! A word of warning though to any nurse in the UK who like me may have problems applying. I trained so long ago that my original college no longers exists which meant me having to send off transcripts to NBV. They also had issues with current UK job titles, as they didn't appear on their 'approved' lists so more letters had to go back on forth. So if you are thinking of registering start sooner rather than later just to be safe. It's far easier to contact your employers whilst you're still in the UK.
At least now one of us will be able to get work when we move fairly quickly, even if it's just bank work to start with.

Great post, I agree completely. Luckily my last job in UK was sister of a cardilogy ward, soit counted. But like you, my school of nursing was long gone, and the university had no idea where my transcripts wer.

BUT, if you still have the brown booklet with all of the skills signed off for 3 years, I just got that notarised by the solicitor and it was fine. Might help some other old timers!
