Applying for jobs

Waiting for the off!
I am currently working in a school in the UK as a special needs teaching assistant and although I love my job I think financially I will need to go back to my original career as a Medical Secretary/P.A.

I would assume that office / secretarial jobs would be filled fairly quickly or need to be filled fairly quickly as opposed to something more specialised where the company may be willing to wait 3-6 months for us to arrive so is there anything to gain from me applying for jobs before we get there?

Turning now to hubby - in light of the fact that he will need to get his electrical licences there could he apply for jobs before we arrive or would no-one consider him for jobs before he gets his licences?

Kari x

A phenomenon

Medical Sec/PA jobs do get filled pretty quickly a lot of the docs offer part time and job share so lot of people want them. Special needs teaching assistants not sure what qualifications you would need for that. Diploma of Teaching Assistant evidently according to google. You have to have a piece of paper to take out the rubbish here.

Electricians, there is a big thread on British Expat Forum that outlines what your husband needs to be able to work here as an electrician. Here is the link to the thread http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=491978

Do not worry to much about securing a job before you leave the UK. Casual work is pretty common here, better hourly rates for casuals but no paid holidays or other benefits. Casual work gives you vast amount of experience as the culture here and vary to that in the UK.

Do not stress too much, if an employer will not wait for you then opt for casual, or, wait until nearer the tie.

Have certified copies of your qualifications as you will need to produce them for everything - you even need a ladder licence!
