At least I don't seem to be alone in having NO IDEA how they decide which teams actually get to play in the final...what are the chances of a Victorian team winning? ...and be honest, is it really possible to get as passionate about Aussie Rules as you were about your soccer team back home??? ...and finally if I can still show my face on the streets after asking that question - any advice on if any of the Grand Final events going on throughout the City are likely to be worth a look??? Cheers |

I think it's going to be a Brisbane v St Kilda Grand Final. Grand Final Day is really huge out here. My brother and his wife are going (they have friends who have a corporate box). The day starts off with a Breakfast somewhere, then over to the box with all food and drink laid on. Then after the game there's the dinner, which lasts for most of the evening. Then if they're still up for it, any one of the main pubs in town will have something on. Alot of people also have a Grand Final Day party at their house and invite all their friends around to watch the game, no matter if their team is in the final or not. |

My money's on port adelade to beat st. kilda 7omorrow and brisbane to beat geelong saturday. Brisbane are the AFL equivalent of Man Utd in the Premier League mid-1990's e.g. they are the glory team (they have won the cup last 3 years in a row) and most of the refeeing bias etc. seems to go their way such as that Brown chap being let off a suspension last week over a technicality. I think you can get as passionate about AFL or more so than the soccer. I'd much rather watch Essendon play now than my soccer team back home. It depends how long you have been here I think. I'm 5 years down the track but I remember my first year not even watching AFL then second year I started to understand the rules & now I just love it. I think after the Grand final I'm going to have withdrawl symptoms until April next year. I'm with Jaykay, I'm hoping St Kilda get to the final with Brissy. |

Yep I'm backing the saints but somehow after their beating a few weeks ago not sure they'll make it passed the next game with Port Adelaide. Jay Kay I had no idea it was so big an event. Sounds like a similar day event to Melbourne cup day with people having picnics and BBQs. I've worked it out- Aussies don't need much excuse for a day of eating and drinking :D |

I could tell by the commentators voices they wanted PA to win, but the exciting atmosphere came over well, the saints must feel gutted - a good season though-it wasn't long ago they only won 7 games in a season! As I said earlier I'm glad they're not up against the Lions for a thrashing again! ... I look forward to the day I can see them play! |

OK I finally get it! Watching the St Kilda vs Port Adelaide match was awesome... (in earlier games I watched, it was so obvious who was going to win, a 100 point lead is not the most exciting viewing!) Shame there are no Victorian sides in the final though...hope I haven't cursed them all by taking an interest!! |

I emailed the membership dept. for St Kilda . to see if there is a supporters club in uk - ans- no not as far as they know. I also asked if they were coming back to uk for training - sadly no they off to another location, but I could go to Moorabbin to watch them train when I come in January :D -they also have a shop and a museum open. The friendly customer service was personal and impressive. Isn't the internet a wonderful invention at times, there's a whole world opened up to us in the last 10 yrs! It never ceases to amaze me what I can find out about! Leh |

More passion? Isn't that due, in part, to the extremely flattering sleeveless vests those fit guys wear to play in.....?! ;) Anya. |

Someone, somewhere (can't find the thread) was saying to Bordy that they couldn't get the Grand Final live in the UK and not to give the scores away because he wouldn't get it until a week later. Well, Sky Sports 2, Saturday 25th September 5.00 am, Grand Final LIVE!! Last Saturday in September.... one day to remember, up there Cazaly, in there and fight and all that. I'll be supporting the Brisbane Lions mainly because of their Fitzroy/Melbourne link seeing as the Bulldogs didn't make it this year! OzTennis :flag: |

Well, history tells us that Port Adelaide Power eventually overpowered the Brisbane Lions and ended up winning easily. I watched the match on Sky and thoroughly enjoyed it. I started off supporting the Lions but ended up supporting the Power and was pleased to see them win in the end. It was touching to see Mark Williams' reaction (when you know about his father and brother both coaching the team to SANFL flags and both passed away and his mother having open heart surgery). I thought it was pretty brutal to begin with and the Power seemed determined to try to get Akermanis, Brown and Lynch in particular into fights. Roll on 2005 and watch the mighty Western Bulldogs climb the ladder. Next week Roosters vs (Canterbury) Bulldogs in NRL final! Oh, and I see by The Age that some Port supporters seemed to have damaged that institution - Chloe in Y&J's pub! Is there no end to it, taking the flag interstate and now damaging Chloe. :D OzTennis :flag: |

Yeah poor Chloe, luckily no lasting damage done. The glass was broken but apart from a tiny scratch on the painting its all ok. They are now putting shatter proof glass in the frame. I thoroughly enjoyed the Grand final, whether its interstate teams or not you just can't beat a good game of AFL. Now comes all the trade talk etc for next year. Oz, I'd be perfectly happy with a Bulldogs V Essendon GF next year, wonder what price I'd get on that. :D |

Bordy, I'd be delighted with that GF next year too. I reckon the bookies would give you better than 100/1 though.
:D I wouldn't be surprised if the Power had a run like the Lions though. OzTennis :flag: |

Have to agree with you, once they get Francou & Primus back next year they could be even better. Stories here that Scott West is going to Bombers but he was on radio today denying it. |

Geez, I hope Scottie doesn't go, he's about our best player. We lost Nathan Brown to the Tigers a year ago and stupidly they traded Montgomery to the Power a couple of years ago. West comes from Essendon or Moonee Ponds so the speculation doesn't surprise me. Not only will Francou and Primus come back but Tredrea hardly had a kick in the GF. Who won the Norm Smith medal for best player in the GF (I stopped watching Sky just after the final siren)? Peter Burgoyne got my vote with Wanganeen and Kickett not far behind. OzTennis :flag: |

Byron Pickett won it. I went with your top 3 to but I had wanganeen as first choice. Not bad going, we both picked two out of three & still got it wrong. |

Interesting - they could have picked either of the 3 and I could have agreed. Pickett has to be one of the toughest players at the ball ever. I thought the absolute turning point in the GF was when the Lions were a goal up in the third qtr, Aker got the ball and hesitated in kicking towards goal, Power turned it over, got a goal to level and then 3 more before the siren. I was talking to my father this morning and he thought Scott West (who wants to be captain) might be trying to put a bit of pressure on new coach Rodney Eade to the effect of make me captain or I might go to the Bombers. As he reminded me West came from Essendon Reserves to the Bulldogs originally. Good to talk footy Bordy - we'll have to keep it going until the new season. :D OzTennis :flag: |
