I am moving to Melbourne on 3 November with hubby, and 3 kids aged 13, 11 and 5 and wonder what catholic schools are available in Beaumaris or Mentone areas, as we hope to live in these areas. I am a midwife and my husband a property manager so we also be looking for work pretty quickly.

Hope you can help.

Hi,

This is a cheeky reply as I haven't been to Mentone for years...

I am looking for a job as a Maths Teacher in the Eastern/South Eastern Suburbs but as I am a bit fussy I asked my ex HoD in UK if she knew anyone in Melbourne. She suggested I contact St Bede's as a friend of hers works there and says it is a fantastic school!

A bit of a lateral recommendation but hope it helps.

My daughter goes to St Peter Julian Eymard, which is a primary school in Mooroolbark. A few teachers are leaving at the end of the year, so if you are a primary school teacher you could always give them a ring to see if the vacancies have been filled.

SPJ is a great school and has a fantastic reputation. Not sure if Mooroolbark is a bit too far out for you though.

If you want any more info just let me know.

Hi Mel,

Sorry no advice for you but thougt I would say Hi. I am a property manager (Chartered Surveyor) and will be looking to live in Mount Eliza/Mornington area and hope to work in CBD for one of the International Co. I would be keen to keep in touch to see how dificult it is going to be to get jobs. Hubby is in Army and we live in Germany (I work as property manager for Defence Estates). My relatives live in Melbourne (Drouin and Mornington) and we have been over several times. I have two children daughter aged 11 son aged 8, both have moved all their lives, daughter has had 7 schools so we are not worried about the move to Oz as for them it will just be another move. We came over last Easter but are awaiting Visa 139 and hope to come over next summer on a final trip before moving over later in the year 07.

Would be grateful if you could keep in touch and let me know how UK property experience is viewed by Oz job market.

Thanks Mel,

Cheryl

hi,
Anyone know of any good catholic primary schools in the Frankston and surrounding areas?
Also, What's the next step and where do I start to look for schools/colleges in the same area for 16/17 year olds who will have completed GCSE's in England in the summer of 2008? Any help appreciated-thanks

Hi,

In Beaumaris the Catholic Primary School is Stella Maris Primary School. It is a school of about 280 students and has a good reputation. The Parish Priest is also well liked and respected.

In Black Rock the Catholic School is St. Josephs which is part of the same parish as Stella Maris. It is a smaller school of about 150 students.

In Mentone the primary school is called St. Patricks which is a larger school. The priest there is more conservative and traditional.

Keep in mind that you usually need to live within the zone to go to these schools so it depends on where you will be living exactly.

The Catholic secondary school for boys is St. Bedes and the girls school is Kilbreda which are both in Mentone. Some girls also go to Star of the Sea in Gardenvale which is further away and has a very good reputation. Some boys go to Kostka hall in Brighton which is a private boys Catholic school.

You need to get in touch with these schools as soon as you can to talk to the principal and enrol them in for when you arrive.

Good luck.
