We're thinking about doing the flying boat 1-hour trip round the bay. Wondered if anyone had taken it, and if it was good...? Cheers, Anya. |

All I know so far is that you can get the flying boat from the pier down here in Williamstown. I'll find out more & let you know. It looks fun though! Cheers, Anya. |

Anya, Please do post more on this. My son will be joining me for a few days when I'm in Melbourne in January and I'm looking for possible touristy things to do. It'll be his 19th birthday too so any ideas as to a special birthday treat - I wondered about the swimming with dolphins. Has anyone done this? How cold is the sea in January, do we need to use wet suits? leh |

The Melbourne City skyline flight is on my 'to do' list for one day A. http://www.seaplane.com.au/ Also on the list is a 'balloon sunrise' flight around the CBD and another in the Yarra Valley whilst staying at Chateau Yering. http://www.balloonsunrise.com.au http://www.chateau-yering.com.au/ (but have a look at the price of a ballooning package under packages!) Don't know if anyone saw 'The Great Outdoors' programme on TV a week or so ago, but the lady reporter did Williamstown to the Baths Restuarant in Sorrento by seaplane. The pilot took her over the MCG and the Bayside suburbs. It looked fun. Think the price was around $85. |

Damn! I missed it! There's a full circle, right round the bay one that we want to do; must get on with organising it. Will post details once we've been on it. Cheers, Anya. |

And 'Coxy' was at Gem Pier, Commonwealth Reserve etc last night. My father has put it on a tape for us 'Williamstown exiles'. Apparently he is also looking for the best fish and chip shop in Melbourne and he visited the one in Syme Street, next to Sam's - not Mussels or Top of the Bay which I consider better?? I did the dolphin swim with some friends in March. Very enjoyable - amazing to see them up close. It wasn't that cold, but wetsuit was required (and provided). Basically they drag lines behind the boat, and whiz around to wherever the dolphins are. You then jump in and hold on to the line. You're not allowed to touch them though. There's no promise as to how much time you'll have with them, just depends on how playful they're feeling. I thought it was worthwhile for just a few up close viewings. We also visited a seal colony. Might be worth checking if the drdging of the bay has impacted the tours though. |
