Reading a thread on british-expats about food, and what can and can't be picked up in OZ...

Can do without UK cheese and biscuits (after all isn't that part of the idea of moving to another country), but a good curry is essential to healthy living. Indeed, I believe that it may be one of the major food groups... ;)

Anyway, has anyone managed to find a good curry house? :fingerscrossed:

Cheers

According to The Age Good Food Guide 2005, the best Indian Restaurant in Victoria is the Bhoj Docklands. The address is 54 New Quay Promenade, Docklands, Melbourne. I haven't sampled it myself yet though.

be prepared to be disappointed with the standard of curries over here in australia, the best curry I have found has to be cooked yourself. no chance of getting a decent ruby like back in england i'm afraid. Here are some of the restaurants I have tried that are passable, but they are few and far between:

sunday night buffet here for about $16pp all you can eat.

food is always spicy, even if a little dry but is edible.

No indian beer worthy of note though. I think those small 300ml or so bottles of the kingfisher are available at some restaurants, but usually cost upwards of $6 per bottle so it's usually more economical to stick to the aussie beer or BYO wine.

That's a shame, 'cos I've found several good Indian restaurants here, & Kingfisher available, including in the local bottle shop.

I guess it is all in the eye of the beholder & depends what you are used to..... ;)

But then I tend to eat veggie Indian dishes and don't like the industrial strength 'burn your guts out' vindaloos etc - prefer subtle blending of flavors (a taste I developed while traveling in Rhajastan, incidentally).

My advice: give some of the Dhals etc a go - you won't be disappointed.

Damn - - now I'm virtually slavering.... ;)

Cheers
Anya.
