We are new to this site. We are moving to Melbourne in September and wondered if anyone lived in / near Frankston and could give us some advice about the area. We have two girls (11 and 9) hoping to go to Overport and Frankston High School. Any information about suburbs, schools and 'the move' would be much appreciated. Thanks Sally and Mark. |

Hi Sally & Mark, welcome to the site. We have a few members from the subirbs either side of Frankston like Mornington, Mt Eliza, Aspendale but I can't think of anyone who actually lives in Frankston. I'm sure if there is they will answer you though. |

Hi there Sally & Mark My sister-in-law lives in Cheltenham and she said that Frankston South is considered the more desirable part of Frankston. She said that although it is improving, Frankston itself is considered the less desirable suburb to be in which is why people tend to migrate towards Mt Eliza, Mornington Peninsula, etc. Hope that helps a bit. Of course, we don't know first hand, I am afraid. Good luck with your move. Regards Sarah |

I have a buddy who lives in Frankston, while he doesn't want to move he tells me that a area called the Pines is a bit of a hole. Have no idea where its located in Frankston though |

Thanks for the advice, we have been looking into different areas with a focus on primary and secondary schools. Mornington looks good for schools, any comments? Thanks Sally. |

Thanks Sven, that's really useful. It's difficult to know where to head especially with two children, we'd like to get them settled as quickly as possible. Can't wait till September, here we come! B) |

HI there, I currently live in Seaford, and have grown up here, went to Frankston High School, and work in Frankston Hospital, so feel that I know the area fairly well. Frankston South is a lovely area, (But since the housing boom, nearly every area in Frankston now calls itself Frankston South) and so is Mt Eliza and Mornington. there are some dodgy areas in Frankston, that I wouldn't recommend, and the Pines is Frankston North, and would prob steer clear of there myself. Frankston High and Overport Primary are very well regarded, and Frankston High prides itself on it's academic reputation, i found it to be a great school and enjoyed it a lot. In saying that, there are quite a lot of good schools around the area as well. Frankston itself is changing and in the next few years will prob improve in a big way, Housing is still affordable at the moment, but is going up, and the advent of the Marina will change the price of housing. there is also a big entertainment complex in the pipeline. growing up here, we were always encouraged to play sport, and so didn't find myself at a loose end, and never got bored. i would still research the areas quite well at where you are looking at living. |

Yeah, I'll ditto those comments about Frankston. My brother lives in Frankston with his wife and 3 children. He lectures at Monash and the in-laws come from Wonthaggi while he comes from Williamstown so they chose it as handy for work and in between both sets of parents. 2 of his children attend Frankston H.S and as said it has an excellent reputation and record. Indeed they are state leaders in their I.T. program with both children doing all their subjects by laptop as well as normal means. The school has a close tie with Toshiba who provide the laptops at low prices and have technicians permanently on site. The other daughter attends Kingsley Park P.S which is excellent as well. Frankston has it good parts and bad parts as said but the good parts and the schools that I know of are well worth considering. I've seen the Pines but I haven't seen the Frankston Beeches yet! :D The beach, waterfront and gardens are good, shopping centre a bit 60's/70's and better during daytime. Alas, you'll find a need for methodone centres everywhere these days. (A friend works in a city centre clinic and she says how many 'suits' or professional people, managers etc attend for their methodone). OzTennis :flag: |

The best thing about Franger( or franganistan as we call it) is that it is so commutable to the city, and also that it is so close to the Peninsula, which is just a lovely area. It has everything you need handy, although the shopping isn't high class, like Chadstone, but you can get anything you need here, and as most of my friends are from the area, I'd have to say that we all came out pretty well, and i'd have to say are all successful in our lives and careers. there are all walks of life here, but that's what makes the world so interesting..... |

We live in Somerville which is 10 mins drive from Frankston. It is a thriving village/town with pretty much everything close to hand. Not sure on the schools there is plans to build a secondary school. The housing is still affordable and it is close to Mornington, Frankston and the peninsula is close at hand. Everyone is looking for something different and we do not have sea views but then the cost of housing reflects this but I would recommend a visit and I would also say it is hard to make a decision on where to live without visiting the areas. Good luck in your house hunt Jo |

hello again, i don,t want to give frankston a rough time as we do much of our shopping there, the centre has everything you need including a really handy train station, the road links are good with easy accsess to the peninsula, its got a great beech with a good pier and theres a spot just up the coast where you could launch your boat for free, theres good and bad every where and its worth a look when you arrive, keep in touch, sven. |
