On Wednesday I was nearly burgled in my home. Two young lads about 18 knocked at my door asking for directions. I thought it strange, gave them directions then closed the door. They didn't go, I noticed them snooping around our garden area at the bikes etc. Very brave I opened the door and told them where to go, or I was to call the police. Which I did anyway, but they just took details and have not been in touch. Now looking back I think I was lucky, but I am now very worried that they might return. Does anyone know if you are safer in oz, especially the area we want to go, Frankston South or Mornington. I know there is crime everywhere you go, but is it as bad as it is getting in the uk. It now makes me even more determined to get to oz. Lorraine |

Of course theres crime here although some suburbs seem worse than others. I can only speak from my personal experience and Ive never felt threatened since I moved here, maybe I'm lucky I'm not sure. I know Frankston South is far better off than Frankston North & my daughter lives in Mornington & loves it, never had any hassles. |

Hi Lorraine, I live in a cul-de-sac in Mornington East and just across the road from us lives a guy who is a hostage negotiator with the Victoria Police and he patrols the area between Moorabin and the CBD. We thought if he chooses to live in Mornington then there can't be that much crime. Also I notice whenever I go to the local supermarkets bicycles are left unchained next to the stands, like bike theft is non-existent here. Reckon anywhere from Frankston South to Mount Martha should be relatively crime free for you. Neil |

I was a Police Officer in Manchester, after 15 years of dealing with it day in and day out, what a relief to come to an area where it is virtually none existant, particularly on the Mornington Peninsula. I asked AAMI why the house contents insurance was so cheap, answer, virtually no crime or reported burglaries in Mount Martha. It's paradise compare the the sh*thole known as the UK. Andy |
