Hello We have been in Melbourne since Novemeber (04) and are starting to look at buying a house in Mornington,Mount Eliza or Frankston South we really wanted to be in Mornignton but are thinking that the distance to commute to the city is maybe too far so we have looked at Mount Eliza or Frankston South have found a great house a Franskton South is everything we want but it seems too cheap so I am wondering why? I have asked aorund the locals and no one thinks it's a bad area in fact no one seems to know much about it really I would be very grateful if anyone has any information I have looked around at schools and kinders and found a couple that look pretty good but would rather go on word of mouth really! Grateful of any help  Thanks in advance :D |

Agree with Andy, the house prices in Frankston South are supposed to be on the increase, its becoming quite a desired area. My daughter works weekends in a real estate down there Simon & she agrees the area is booming. |

Hi Fred, I used to live in Frankston South for a few years, and it is a gorgeous area, and have been looking to buy in the area as well. I went to Frankstom High and even all those years ago it was a great school, and it has continued to build on its reputation. It has all computer-learning classes if you want your kids to learn in that way, and is well known for both academic and sporting achievements. Anywhere around the humphries raod area is also lovely if you want some land, and it is so close to everything. not far from the Freeway or the highway and also close to the peninsula, a good choice in my books |

Hi have been looking at frankston too and it looks like a good area. Right beside the beach and affordable house prices but have heard the crime rate is rising and is close to carrum which isnt a desirable area. Is this all just talk or is there any truth in it? How far is it to the CBD on the train? |

So is the general consensus that Frankston South is fab but avoid Frankston? Basically the south is the nice pocket? Are there any nice shops, cafes and bars in Frankston South itself or is it all residential? |

Its a case of wait and see or bite the bullet and risk the investment. Riff Raff are being forced to look further afield (inland) as prices closer to the sea rise. Seaford is worth looking at (on the seaside of the motorway (frankston freeway) and trainline. But you would have to be quick prices have gone silly already. |

We've just moved to Frankston South. Not far from Sweet Water Creek which we can walk through to get to the beach. It's lovely especially the area around Humphries Rd. The bit bordering Mt.Eliza and Olivers Hill is considered the better part. It's North Frankston and Karingal which is less desirable. South Frankston is residential on the whole. Most people would shop in Frankston. I often go food shopping in the Supermarkets in Mt.Eliza (Safeway and Richies). The Bayside Shopping centre is pretty good. Modern and like most of the purpose built shopping malls in the UK. There are a few shops, bakery, hairdresser and a cafe in Norman Avenue. The Frankston Arts Centre has some good plays and events. There's a restaurant on Frankston Foreshore and a plenty of restaurants and a bar in Mt.Eliza. Mornington is probably the place to go for nightlife if you don't want to go to Frankston. The council are pumping money into Frankston and the choice of schools public and private are v.good. The train journey to the city is approx 1hr 10mins. Caroline |

Hi Flower Our daughther is 4 and was due to start school here this Sept, so keen on getting her into a preschool in Frankston South / Mount Eliza asap, can I ask where you get information on preshcools? I can find plenty on schools, even went to see Mount Eliza north and it looks lovely. But slightly empty handed on pre schools, also do you know if they tend to have waiting lists? Sorry for all the questions but one last one, is it true they can only go 3 sessions a week? Thanks Maddie |

Hi Maddie, A list of pre-schools can be obtained by contacting the local council. Sessions dates/times/lengths vary depending on the pre-school. Some child-care centres operate Kinder Programs. Mt.Eliza house is a good child-care centre. I have PM'd you with other info about the Mt.Eliza/S.Frankston area. regards, Caroline |
