Hi

My eleven year old daughter is just about to finish Year Six here and is due to start High School in September, when we arrive in Oz next month will she have to re-do year six or will she be starting High School.

She is a June birthday, if this helps.

Many Thanks

Missiemo

Hi Missiemo... We have a son born June 1st 1995, so very close in age to your daughter.. We shall be going to same area as you as soon as this school year ends. We have decided to chill out about school and wait till we get there to decide and probably won't put him into school until October. The school year in Victoria starts in Feb so it will be a case of hanging on til then or re-doing a bit. Pros and cons either way. If you start straight away, then I suppose you can get to know the system and it allows for a margin of error but, if you get it wrong, it does mean a lot more upheaval. We are taking our time on this one and, it takes the pressure off a bit giving you more time to familiarise yourself with your new surroundings. I guess if you are out at work from day one, that wouldn't be an option but, in the meantime there are good links for education on the DIMIA and liveinvictoria websites. I'd be interested to hear what you do and the outcome when you've done it  (sorry it's such a long-winded reply!)

All the best anyhow... i'll be monitoring your postings like a hawk given that you are a few steps ahead and off in the same direction!

Hi Rebecca

Thanks for that, I will for the first time in my life not be working when we get out there, so I will have enough time on my hands to choose very carefully what schools to choose, my oldest has had a rotten few years at our local school (ofsted report reflected teaching needed to badly improve) there's a surprise.

I guess as the school year starts in Feb she could re do part of year six, I do not think that would be a bad thing, any extra can only help.

Do you know what part of Victoria you will settle in, we have still not made a decision, bit scary really but it will be an adventure.

Keep in touch, and if where ever you decide to settle is close by we should get together.

Take care

Mo
