Hi, Well we arrived safe and well. Melbourne is fab from what I can see of it. We've hired a car, and have driven to aspendale and Patterson Lakes. I would love peoples opinion whether bad or good on these areas. I've looked at Patterson Lakes I think its a lifestyle your getting into there. Aspendale or at least I think it was aspendale its where the windows restaurant and the fab park. which of the areas would be suitable for a family with a 7 year old boy. Excuse any spelling mistakes etc I'm typing this really quickly in the internet cafe. Will log on again soon. |

When we did our reccie we were thinking of opting or Patterson Lakes but when we actually came here to live we thought we would go a bit further down the Peninsula. I would suggest you check out Frankston South, Mt.Eliza, Mornington & Mount Martha. There is a new development being built at the moment called Martha Cove which is a bit like Patterson Lakes, that is, houses with moorings and access to the bay (expensive too). We opted for Mt.ELiza as it's got a good village centre, good schools and a less urban but not out in the sticks feel to it. It's very community spirited too and not too far from Frankston Station. Hope all is going well with you so far. It's a bit manic trying to do all those important things when you first arrive especially with a young child. |

Thanks for the reply. I'm so stressed were staying in a hotel. We've looked at a property in patterson lakes, today it was grotty. So tomorrow its aspendale or though we may venture further a field, towards Frankston. I love Melbourne but have come up against problems. If you don't have a permanent address you can't buy a car, if you don't have a car you can't go looking at places. You can't register for your tax file, medicare, centrelink with out an addressand they won't accpet the hotel. Its 3 weeks to Christmas, and our 7 year old does'nt even no where Father Christmas is coming to deliver his presents. oh I wish we had more time. Thanks Ange x |

I guess the priority is on finding a decent long term rental whilst you've got a hire car. We stayed at the Frankston Big4 for two weeks when we arrived and got our tax file numbers online using the holiday parks address. The TFN can take upto 28days to come through. We asked reception to address any mail they received for us after our departure to where we moved to (rental address) which they did wonderfully. We extended the hire period of the hire car until we bought ours which was a pain but necessary. Medicare won't have you on their computer base until approx a week after you arrive so that's not a mega rush. Getting Vic Ambulance cover is a good thing to do too. Good luck. We left the UK on the 28th Dec last year. |
