AUSSIE INTERNET IS FUBAR
Greetings all from "sunny" Scotland.

We have just stumbled on this site and have been trawling previous postings. I've seen many mentions of validation trips. I'm Aussie but my husband is waiting on a decision on a Skilled Independent (Subclass 136) visa. I researched pretty thoroughly and did not see any mention of the need to do a seperate trip to validate the visa. Does this apply to other types of visas?

I'm worried now as we were planning to upsticks the second they give the nod. Any info appreciated.

Thanks, Wendy

A validation trip isn't necessary. We did one as we had our visa for a while and had to validate it by entering Australia before a certain cut off date. For various reasons we weren't ready to leave the UK until after the validation (or 1st entry to Oz) date so took a holiday, took a look around and got everything ready to leave and then left to live in Oz after the validation date but prior to the visa running out.

You don't have to validate it by coming to Oz, returning to the UK and then back again. So you can just come straight to Australia if you're ready to.

Hope this puts your mind at rest.

Hi

As Caroline says you do not have to do a 'validation trip' to validate your visa.

My hubby has been granted his 136 visa and we have decided just to go for the big move in June. When your visas are granted you will be given a date which you must have made at least initial entry by. Some people use this as an opportunity for a reccie and check out places to live etc. If you feel confident enough make the move without the trip i would say go for it.
We decided to save the money that would probably be spent on a validation trip and use it to help with the set up costs when we arrive.

Good luck and try not to worry about it too much.
