Hi guys!
You certainly seem a lot more open with positive views than some on BritishExpats, so thought Id post here!
Myself an my wife, and daughter of 2 are considering the move, to either of the above. My wife works as an IT manager, and I'm a Personal Trainer. As most people question, my wife is a bit cioncerned ovre the similarity to the UK weather in Melbourne, but from hearing info, it doesnt look to be that bad?!
I've seen the thread with a .pdf file on suburb listings which has given me some background.
Could people give me some other direct suburbs to look at with; (I must say my Melbourne geogrphy is non-existent, so maps are good too!)
- Up to $350 (pref $300k but 400K max) purchase. We would look to rent for first 6 months to scope things out.
- Would want to be fairly near beaches (20min drive tops), but still be a max of 60mins ish to city centre
- good schools and community environment for youngsters.

- Have seen some nice houses in Point Cook, Bayswater, Ferntree Gully not sure if these areas are good or match the criteria?! A good map of the suburbs and location to city would be good!!! :D

Also, if anyone has comaprisons with Brisbane and its lifetstyle would much appreciate it in this time of do we dont we, where do we go saga!!

Look forward to hearing and talking..... ;)

you can move the cursers around and zoom in and out on this one. It's not great but it gives you a bit of an idea. You may also find that when looking for houses, businesses etc it gives you the 'Melway Ref' When you get here don't get fooled into buying a UBD instead of a Melway as they are nowhere near as clear. We got a free UBD when we bought the car and we never use it!

Hi Mark

Welcome

You should have a chat with Buzzy Bee he did a detailed comparison between Brisbane and Melbourne. While he was here he did mention that he found the beaches much better in Melbourne. Your wifes concern about the weather - its not the same as the UK. The winter is worth waiting for - its chilly but not freezing and is very bright - I forgot how much I enjoy the winters downunder.

The seasons make life more interesting.

Mark,

Just wondering if you search out Buzzy Bee can you let me know! We are at present in Dublin, Ireland and are looking to move to Melbourne mid 2008. One of my concerns was weather in Melbourne as I didn't want to move halfway round world to experience same weather as Dublin!! Don't want it blissfully too hot either (fussy i know). Brisbane was the other city we had in mind so I would be interested in looking at research findings if you manage to get hold of them.

From reading posts on this website though I think we will head for Melbourne as weather doesn't seem too bad and ultimately we are moving for lifestyle change and I know my husband would be sick of sun 365 days a year!

Unless Dublin is in the middle of a drought I don't think you need to worry about Melbournes weather being similar.
We are due 30 degrees today then 38 degrees for Sunday & Monday.
