For all new members, feel free to introduce yourself & let us know if you interested in moving to Melbourne or part of the way through the process or you might even be living in Melbourne now.

We are a friendly bunch on here & look forward to helping out whenever we can.

Hello all,

We are a family of four (two boys 9 and 6) and currently live in Glasgow. This looks like a great wee site to get great info on Melbourne and the surrounding area.

I am coming over on a solo reccie in April and will maybe post some questions to get some info for my trip.

All the best

Hi...

My wife and I, plus two kids (both girls, aged 3 and 5) will be leaving Perth in April to move to Melbourne. We are looking to buy a place in the Hampton / Sandringham area.

We are heading to Melbourne in early March for 8 days to look at schools / houses etc and get a feel for the suburbs....

Looking forward to meeting up when we are over there!

Cheers

Paul

PS We are meeting up with Shane and "TheBears" household when we are over in March but I was wondering if are any "meet ups" planned between the 3rd and 11th March?

Hi

My wife and I, and our two kids (daughter, 7 and son nearly 2) are moving at the end of Feb to Melbourne from West Yorkshire. I have a job lined up in the CBD with the Melbourne office of the Australian arm of my existing employer in the UK. Since this forum has been quite useful to me in the months leading up to now, I thought it was time to register and say hi to all! :waving:

We will be house hunting and trying to familiarise ourselves with schools and suburbs over the coming weeks. We have some ideas and have received recommendations, but are looking forward to seeing it ourselves, never having been before! Fortunately we will have a week here before I start work, but there's only so much you can do and see in a single week!

Cheers,
Paul

Good luck with it Paul. Its a huge move for anyone but probably a bit more if you have never been before.
It helps that you have a job to come to, I just hope they give you a bit of time off to get everyone settled.

Welcome Miykael. If your 26 then you have plenty of time to save up.

I take it youve never been to Australia before. I hope all goes well & you achieve your dream sooner rather than later.

Hi,

My OH and I have just submitted our visa application (OH is a chippie) and we are just waiting with fingers crossed to get the visa, and hopefully will be moving to Australia at the end of the year. We were both in Australia on working holiday visas and have always wanted to go back. We both loved Melbourne, and decided it was the place for us. We've been living a quiet rural life in ireland for the past 6 years or so (having lived in London before that), but want to move back near a city with plenty to do, and Melbourne fits the bill for us. OH is a huge motorbike fan, and the fact that Melbourne has the Superbikes and Moto GP is a great bonus, and of course the Grand Prix. We just can't wait to get there

Hi I'm Matt. My family and I are in the process of coming over to Melbourne. I have been offered a job with the ATO( some one has to do it) which I am in the process of accepting. We will be coming over on a 457 visa, hopefully about September time.

We are currently thinking about living in Clifton Springs on the Bellarine Penninsula, but I am just worried about the commute to the CBD.

I am completely open to any advise anyone can give me.

Hello Matt and welcome. I'm surprised you got a job with the ATO on a 457 - I thought you had to have PR to work for them. Well done.

I think the Bellarine Peninsula will be a long way to commute to Melbourne CBD - maybe 1.5 hous +. Geelong CBD would be better from there.

Hi

Is this the best kept secret or what????? Only just found this site and it's great.

We're a family of 4 (2 boys 6 and 8) at the beginning of the long journey ahead. We're both teachers and have applied under the STNI with shortage subjects (DT). We were hoping that we'd be in Melbourne by the end of the year but after reading numerous postings (on BE) we think it's probably going to be 12 months from now!

Our visa application should be submitted this week, via our agent. We'll be doing our meds unrequested in the Easter holidays. Think that's about it!

I'm sure we'll have loads (and loads) of questions - be patient with us.....

I recognise a few names from the BE site - The Bears, Buzzy Bee, Bordy - we're logged on as True Blue Toffee (don't hold that against us)!!!!!

If memory serves me right you might be a bit of an Everton supporter.

We have a few Chelsea, Man city & even West Ham guys around. I'm a bit of a convert, I prefer the AFL now.
There are one or two teachers members to so I'm sure you will get plenty of help if needed.

:waving: Hello, we have just booked our flights!!!! My husband, my 5 year old son and myself will be landing in Melbourne on 24 June - oh my goodness!

We have lived in Australia before my husband & I lived in Canberra (where our son was born in 2002). We moved back to the UK and as soon as we were back thought - what a big mistake and now we have just been granted our PR and heading back out............. We are thinking of moving to Point Cook. Very excited but I am very scared at the same time.

Hubby works in Data Warehousing in IT. I am currently working for a Estate Agency Telford, Shropshire - so I have no idea what I will get up to (don't think it will be sitting by a pool drinking Hahn if the Bank Manager has anything to do with it!!).

My son is a very active, clever little boy who is so excited about the pending move. He loves gymnastics, football and superheros!!!

We can't wait to meet up with others on Britvic - what a great site.

We're going through the process with the boys at the moment of trying to wean them onto Aussie Rules - it's going to be difficult, don't have the first clue!

Welcome to all the newbies. This is a great site for info and advice. A friendly bunch who are always willing to help. We have been here a year now, living in Mornington, I work as a Nurse manager, we have 2 small children, 5 and 4. Im always willing to help the newcomers...we were once and know how daunting it is.

Oh and by the way, we have spent the day with Andy T and is family on his farm, playing tennis, swimming in the pool and a couple (ahem) of beers . His guest accommodation is splendid, and will be even beter once the extension is added.....a great place for new arrivals to stay until they find a rental house. He can be contacted via this site :)

Hi Everyone & Tania, Jason & Connor,

We are also from Telford, i cant believe there's someone on here so close to us!

We are a family of 5, Hubby Chris, Josh 17, Cody 15 & Kieran 11, and me, Sam.
We are waiting for our medicals end of March then hopefully visa's.

Dont know where we'll end up though, Melbourne is top of list for many reasons but mainly work for Chris, Automotive Engineer.
Hope to be there by the end of the year so kids can start school in Jan, Although eldest is staying here to finish A levels so thats quite scary, leaving him and going to other side of world - eek!!

Good luck to everyone

I am a Community Registered Nurse and Hubby is a SAINTS mad Signalman that works on the railways. We have a Daughter Katie who is 8 and we all very much look forward to meeting up as we are all out-door people who love to socialise.....

As much as we would like to be near Ivanhoe we also love the beach, I guess we will be busy doing alot of reckies when we arrive.......any thoughts!?

Any fellow SAINTS fans out there within the 'BRITVIC FAMILY', would make my Hubby's day.

Good Luck to everyone and here's looking forward with excitment.
