. We're both teachers and have applied under the STNI with shortage subjects (DT). We were hoping that we'd be in Melbourne by the end of the year but after reading numerous postings (on BE) we think it's probably going to be 12 months from now!

We were STNI - Pack your bags, book your meds -- you're gonna be fast tracked- ours took just 4 mnths

Hi All
I am the advance party of one, wife and 4 kids in Auckland. they should be over in about 6 months, we moved from Epsom in surrey at the start of 2003, but NZ is far to quiet and there is not a lot of work about. I have just started with a company in the CBD, I am in a grotty motel in St Kilda, and having a hell of a time getting an apartment, but I am still quite upbeat about Melboune.
Speak soon

Hi

my hubbie has just arrived in Melbourne to settle 3 kids in various unis. The idea is for him to find a rental and I will be joining him in March. However, this is not proving to be easy...

We would love to meet up with others and make friends with people. Neither of us have jobs there and people keep telling us what a 'brave' decision we have made (I think this is code word for 'stupid').

However, apart from the lack of accomodation - the unis appear to be good and in nice areas, the weather currently fab and the city lovely - so hopefully 6 months from now the stress will be worth it.

Hi,

I'm cheating a bit because I've been using Britvics for a few months but have been off-line during our move. We are a family of 4 - 2 children 10 and 7 - who have moved from 'Old' South Wales.

Just completed our 6th week here and really enjoying it.

Have found Britvics to be really useful so hoping that I can return the favour for other people.

Thanks Missiemo

I have so many questions to ask on the forum, but worried that they will sound silly!!! Not long now until we arrive - 24 June 2007!

Sam, I can't believe someone else from Telford is moving to Oz!

Hi Guys :D

Its us BROWNS again (from Dorset by the way) needing to say WHAT A FRIENDLY FAB BUNCH you all are.

Thanx Mo and family etc - keep chatting and don't worry, the Buckingham Family, even the silliest of questions will turn out to be valuable and there will be plenty from us, too.

We are glad to hear the Eastern suburbs seem to have it all. We would value any area that would accommodate excellent schools for our Katie (8), swimming pool/gym, local shops and cafe plus within an hours travelling time to the Smoke. Just trying a bit of lingo there. But we presume it will all depend on where our work is.

Good Luck to everyone in all their different stressful scenerios (the sun does shine) too much in Melbourne at the mo, we hear. God knows how a community nurse feels driving around in that heat albeit with aircon...........

Just an odd question about flights, what would be the best time to fly with children?? We have been looking at 10pm with Malaysian airways who take just under the day - any suggestions.

Thanx all
JEFF and JILLIE

Hi Tania, we have also looked at Point Cook/ Sanctuary Lakes areas as if Chris gets job at Toyota thats out that way, lots of people recommend Mornington & Frankston but i dont know if thats to far away from Altona where Toyota is, would anyone know?? He travels about an hr now and would like to travel less if possible.

Hi Jeff & Jillie
We flew Emirates to Brisbane which we thought was good, Bham - Dubai 7hr, 1hr wait then Dubai - Singapore 7hrs, refuel then 7hrs to Brisbane. Its slightly longer on way back (if you're coming back :( ). We left Bham at 8.30pm.
Whatever time you go its still about 24hrs.

:waving: Hi The Brown Family!

We are travelling with Singapore Airlines departing London 18:30hrs - thought this was a great time, Connor can be fed and watered - then we hope he will be so tired after an exciting adventure at the airport all day that he will then sleep until nearing Singapore. We are having a 3 night stop over in Singapore and then travel to Melbourne at 21:00hrs - once again we hope he will have some sleep and land in Melbourne at 06:10.

We have decided to have a stop over as the next 4 months will be very stressful and once we get to Melbourne it will be house hunting and school hunting.

If memory serves me right you might be a bit of an Everton supporter.

We have a few Chelsea, Man city & even West Ham guys around. I'm a bit of a convert, I prefer the AFL now.
There are one or two teachers members to so I'm sure you will get plenty of help if needed.

Hey we to are Everton suporters, we are planning our arrival in Melbourne on Sept 3rd this year with two kids. We don't know anyone, have never been there before and have no jobs, we have nowhere to live & not much sense!!!! Wish us luck!!!!

Hi to Sam and Tania and everyone else. I used to live in Aqueduct but moved to North Wales a few years ago.

Quick hello to Sam, we know each other through a mutal friend Nickki (its Nadine by the way). Looks like we will be in Victoria before you, we are hoping to go in June (if we can get dog sorted and house sold). Adam is staying behind to go to uni as well cant force them to come can you, did Josh get his visa validated or not. Didnt realise you were going to Melbourne though, were going rural, somewhere by the latrobe valley (as long as Pete gets a job) otherwise its stick a pin in the map scenario.

Can't believe how many people are leaving the UK and chasing their dream. Good look to all of us who are taking that journey, and hello to all you lucky people who have made it ( ), can't wait to be one of you. :D

Just reread your message Sam and realised you havn't got your visas yet :bashful: as your having your medicals in March. I would recommend that Josh gets his visa validated as Adam didnt (he was adamant he wouldnt live in oz so said it was a waste of money). As the move gets nearer he is asking more questions and im sure when he has been on holiday he would want to move over (obviously more complicated as he has to arrange his own visa). Good luck with the medicals, are you going to the GP practice in Shrewsbury (cant remember the name, its by the bridge). We nearly didnt pass ours as Petes blood pressure was to high initally, they were very good though did it three times, got him to lie down and relax for half an hour till it came down. Good luck with them anyway :)

Hello, from not so sunny Scotland! We are the Millar family and have applied for a 134 STNI visa. Not going on my skills, don't think housewife ranks too high on the skills list  Family consists of me, hubby and two children, son age 8 and daughter age 5, both really excited about moving to Australia. I'm amazed, but pleased, at the amount of people like us who are selling up their homes, moving to the other side of the world, never been before, don't know anyone, have no job and nowhere to live. Are we all crazy????? Love reading about the people who have achieved their dream already, hope this time next year we will be the same. That's if this whole waiting process hasn't tipped me over the edge by then. :dur:

Hi Nadine
i thought it was you the other day when i saw your name, so your not there yet? If we get there before Xmas then josh will come over then to validate his visa, he wants to go to uni in oz to study vetinary science so we've been looking into that, he's still quite keen at the mo but like you say that could all change, but so long as his visa is validated there shouldnt be a problem.

We are having meds at Shrewsbury but they cant fit us in til mar 29th :( Thats over 6 wks away, i'm getting impatient now and rang this morning to see if they had a cancelation - they didnt.

Good luck in June, keep in touch

Sam x

Good luck Phil & Debbie
I could do with you two talking to my hubby! he's being very boring at the mo, wont do anything til the visas in his hand. Also worried about getting job, having enough money etc etc.
I say go for it & lets do something with our life, if it doesnt work out then we come back (with no money!) at least we've seen another country :)

Hya Carmil & family
Good luck to you too :)
