:D Hi everyone,

First time for posting - any help would be useful.

Coming over in December this year for first holiday/reccie.

Which suburb on Mornington Peninsula is best for schools, families etc. but also for 30 to 40 mins to OH's sister in Geelong ??

Any suggestions (polite one's) would be welcome.

Cheers all.

Hi Tom, I think the usual suspects of Mornington, Mount Eliza, Mount Martha & Frankston South all seem good for schools.

Getting to Geelong in 30 to 40 minutes could be a problem though. Quickest way might be the ferry across the bay but I don't know how long this takes.

This may be useful to you.

It takes 40 mins on the ferry quicker than driving (total travel time from Mornington 1 hour 15mins) - you would barely be in the CBD in 40 mins never mind the other side of the bay which will take aprox 1 hour 45 mins.

Try this site http://www.searoad.com.au/

Return price for 2 Adults and 2 children is $128 you can get discounts for multiple tickets. We often drive one way and ferry back the other to half the cost.

Thanks Bordy and Louise for your replies and useful info.

Is it worth considering Rye or Rosebud? Are these places much nearer to the ferry to make a difference or does my preference for schools outweigh them?

Is the Geelong area considered better than the Mornington suburbs Bordy suggested?

Thanks.

Once again, any info is welcomed!! :)

Its each to their own Tom. We have a bunch of members here from Geelong who love it down there.

Its just one of those things you will need to check out when you arrive, drive around each area & see which one feels right for you.

Its not like a choice between a good & bad area as both are pretty good.

Just a thought mate but perhaps you might consider suburbs for your own rather than live in an area to suit others?

While Geelong and Mornington are great areas there is alot more too Melbourne - putting all your eggs or hopes on just these may cause unneeded stress.

Do you have an area in which you are more likely to be gaining employment. Melbourne is well known for its attention to schooling so all areas should contain "good" schools.

Thanks again everyone for your suggestions. ;)

The Bears - we are choosing an area to suit ourselves but also to be close to family, on both sides.

My wife would be working around the areas mentioned but I will not be working.

We do not want to be "in the city" and family lives in Geelong, Mornington and Frankston.

Thanks again guys. :D
