Hi we live in Sydney at the moment and the only prep schools here are private. We are moving to Melbourne with Oh job and i was wondering if my son would be eligible for prep in Vic and if it would be private or public we are on 457 visas at the mo in the process of getting perm. DS will be 4 in december and he is like a little sponge desperate to learn. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Poshrice  |

Hi there, I noticed you have posted after my recommendation to ask the question on Britvics as well as BE. I have moved the question to general discussion as you should get more replies that way. Welcome to Britvics! :waving: |

Hi, If your on a 457 visa then as far as I know you would have to pay for any schooling until your PR visa comes through. If he's going to be 4 in december then he will only be elligible to start kinder next year, my little one starts next year too. Kinder is usually 10, 12 or 14 hours per week and has to be paid for, you can apply through the local council. I noticed on the BE thread you did that your moving to point cook. I'm living there at the moment and 4 year kinder places are thin on the ground, everyone I know has put their name down for the local ones and are crossing their fingers that we'll get places as there arn't that many. Good luck, Rachel |

I would say that Point Cook/Sanctuary Lakes is probably the nearest for you within budget and it would be an easy commute to Port Melbourne. If you went East you would have to go out quite a way to stay in budget so would probably be looking at about an hours commute. |
