I keep looking for enlightenment on the internet as to which school would be OK for the kids, but we really want to look at different areas before making the final decision.

What did most of you do when you first came over ?

Did you have schools already lined up, or did you wait until you arrived before making any real decisions.

Also if anybody has any good advice regarding the Upwey/Belgrave/Ferntree area schools that would be great.

My lads will be 9 & 12 when we arrive in July, so they will both start at primary level when we arrive, but the eldest will move up to secondary in Jan 2008.

We looked into all the suitable private schools before we left, but decided to start them out in the local school first. This has worked out well for us at the moment because their state school is fantastic, but if we move our view might change. Our kids are only 6 & 7 so secondary education isn't yet a huge concern, but I have heard it is not uncommon for kids to be enrolled/start at a private school the year before they start secondary. This I think helps them get a place for Secondary.

We waited until we came over. Drove around different area until we found where we wanted to be and then started looking into schools for the girls. Don't rush looking for someone to live so that you can get the kids started at school. It won't hurt them to be off for a few weeks whilst you get organised and then you'll be more sure of making the right decision of where to live. Good luck.

We have a 3 and a 5 yo and we are planning on finding a suburb we like then enrolling the kids. Eldest "could" start when we arrive in August but we're holding her back til January so she gets the whole of the first year and hopefully might know some of the kids too.

The hardest bit for us is that 5 yo is due to start school in August and is already soooooo ready for it. It's going to be hard keeping her back til January
