Hello there! We have a really BIG problem
 We (me, my husband + 2 young boys) are moving back to Oz in a few months time and we haven't got a clue where we should live. We would like to live in the Melbourne area but don't know which suburbs to choose. St Kilda sounds nice but is it quite expensive to rent a house/flat? We even thought about Frankston or Geelong but really don't know what these places are like. We're looking for a family-friendly area with good pre-schools & schools - perhaps even a Montessori school - where it's safe for children to grow up. We do like lively areas as well. Previously, we lived in NSW - one hour south of Sydney and we didn't like it at all. It seemed backwards and to be honest pretty dull - just beach life & nothing else to do. We don't want to make this mistake again. Unfortunately, we don't know anyone in the area and there are so many many places! Any info that someone might have would be greatly appreciated! And oh yes, we LOVE swimming - so access to public swimming pools would be really nice. Many thanks, Annie |

Hi Annie, I know a place that will tick ALL of your boxes. South Frankston. Frankston North and Karingal are meant to be the areas to avoid but Frankston South which borders Mt.Eliza is very nice. The border is Humphries Rd. South Frankston has got great facilities for families and the city is still accessible. There's space and trees and yet it's easy to do the everyday things you need to do, schools, shopping, entertainment, beach, kids activities etc. Frankston Council are pouring money into the place to improve it. I can recommend the area around Sweetwater Creek especially. My son is in 4 yr kinder in S.Frankston and I'm currently researching primary schools. There are at least 3 primary schoolsin the running that have good reputations. The choice is making it difficult for me!!! Also Frankston High School is meant to be very good and people will move into 'the zone' to get their children in. We swim at Pelican Park in Hastings - 25mins drive away. There are nearer public pools which the council plan to improve in the future. I currently swim at a gym I've joined and kids can go at the weekends. Cost $16 a week. Kids $5.50 a visit. Google the Frankston Councils website, check out Mt.Eliza North Primary, Derinya and Mt.Eliza primary schools, Pelican Park and the Frankston High School websites for further info. Property prices are reasonable. If you would like any further information feel free to PM me. Caroline |

Hi Annie , we live in Pakenham which is on the edge of Gippsland. There is plenty to do in the area and there is also a new indoor swimming pool with sports halls etc. There are several schools and kindergartens as well. Gippsland countryside is beautiful and varied and there is a small beach about 15 mins about at a lovely little place called Tooradin. Hope this helps as I know looking for an area to live it isn't an easy thing to do. Good luck. |
