Whilst having dinner with two Australian and two Uk people on Sat eve and talking about our first few months here .I had an Idea as follows

Adopt -a -Pom
If you have a family coming from the Uk to the area that you are living in what about adopting them for a short while to help them out .
I`m not talking financially but helping them out wilth all the silly things .medicare driving licence schools etc .all the things that we had to find out when we all first got here .
Britvics is a great information site and I am sure lots of friendships have been formed .But how nice would it be to have a someone locally to you that you could ask all the daft things that creep into your head about and have a chat to

any way just a thought

I`m game :shoe:

As one of the Poms coming over soon I think that is a brilliant idea.

Quick question how many bottles of wine into the meal where you to get such a good idea??

Cheers

OMG  that is the most fantastic idea. I am normally a very stable (although like a drink) northern lass but I have turned into this crazed stressed out female who I don't recognise. To think that someone would be there to help guide us through the first steps would make me laugh again I am sure.

Please Please someone adopt the Gawlers before we all combust with stress.

Sue you are a genius or a very very kind hearted person creep creep :mate:

We'd be happy to adopt someone. Not sure if we'd be a fantastic help as we've only been here for 5 months. At least it's all still fresh in our minds.

We're currently living in Toorak but have bought a house in Williamstown so will be moving West in September. We have a 1 year old so can give info about childcare too and have already began looking at schools.

We do this anyway with anyone wanting help if they come to the area where we live. We are currently helping a family who are moving here from Perth and coming to Pakenham. We have put them up in our house for a weekend whilst they came over for a quick reccie of the area. I have put together an info sheet on Pakenham if anyone is interested and coming to this area. :waving:

I`m glad that my idea had a positive response .
So for my part I live on the peninsula ( i`m sure everyone is fed up of this by now ) in Mornington and I am out and about in my job everyday so its not a hardship for me to meet up with people etc .If there are families who are heading this way then please feel free to pm me I will then give you my home number and we will go from there and see how this progresses .
Even if I can help a few families to settle a bit better and give them a few pointers then I am a happy bunny
I am not saying I know all there is to know but the important things I feel that I have a good grip on by now

Hope to here from someone

Sue

Ok here is our situation and wondered if there is anyone that wants to adopt us poor orphans from the North heading to Melbourne in September.

We land on the 18th and staying in Yarraville area for 3 weeks until we find a long term let. Only have 3 weeks to get into a rental as thats when the cats are out of quarantine (I botched the dates and they leave 1 week before us).

OH will be working in CBD and so need to be near good public transport links but willing to look at all areas as never visited Melbourne. So far interested in Eastside though (Eltham, Roweville, FTG).

Don't have kids at moment - but you never know!!!

So any nice kind ozzy-pom interested in helping us out you can pm me.

We are very nice and into wine and good food and having fun AND when not trying to organise moving our whole life to the other side of the world fairly easy going and laid back (at moment though I am in a constantly freaking out!!)

Cheers
