Oh and Lisa we may need adopting sooner, as you know we got our visa's approved and have been playing round with various ideas, unfortunately doesn't look like we'll be able to keep the house here but we may be able to fly out and let my dad sell it for us, so we could be out there if we can book the flights and movers etc in about 2 months - eeeek

Will update more when I know for sure. But it's turned mighty cold here the last two days, bit of encouragement to speed it along.

Anyone got the detaisl for the big 4 ??? I think thats what the holiday accomodation is called???

Jen

I'll be ready for you

Hope everything falls into place for you

Can't help out on the Big 4 question though, not even sure on the closest one to Point Cook :dur:

See you soon!!

Also some info on how to get a rental property before we move or info on hotels / apartments in the area that we could use until we manage to get a rental property.

Looking forward to meeting you all soon,

Hi Laura and Family :waving:

Check out the following websites to get an idea of rental properties in the area. I doubt you will be able to sort a rental before you arrive though due to certain documents etc that estate agents require.

http://www.pointcookrealestate.com.au/

http://www.domain.com.au/

I can also recommend Quest Serviced Apartments as a place to stay on your arrival. They are dotted around the area and have one in Sanctuary Lakes now:

http://www.questsanctuarylakes.com.au/

We stayed at the one in Williamstown North for a week on our arrival and I found them clean and comfortable.

Anything else I can help with, just ask :)

Lisa :D

Hi,

We'd like to be adopted too, Craig 43 and Jane 41. What a fab idea!!

We are waiting for our visas and hopefully they'll be here November time. We plan to fly out end of Jan beginning of February.

We've managed to sell the house so that's one stressful thing out the way. We will be having our 5th attempt at IVF in November too so hopefully I'll have a little excess baggage. So everyone keep your fingers crossed as I think this will definitely be our last attempt.:fingerscrossed:

We would really love to settle in Mornington / Mount Martha but if I am 'with child' I can't see anyone employing me (although I would like to work) which would mean we would be counting on Craig. He is a plasterer and I don't know how far he would have to travel to get work. I'm also a bit apprehensive that I'll be old enough to be a granny and just having my first kid. I'll feel like the oldest swinger in town at the mother and baby groups :crybaby:

Anyway, sorry it that's too much info but it's nice to get it off my chest. There is so much that we haven't told our friends and family and so much going on with the house going through, the IVF and waiting on the visa.

So if anyone would like to adopt a jibbering wreck and my laid back hubby....feel free.

Hello Jane and Craig

Lots and lots of luck, crikey :ugh: you do have a lot going on.

We are in Mornington, hubby is a tradie, so might be able to help with contacts for hubby.

Look forward to taking you under our wing, take care and stay in touch.

Hi Nick, Mo and Clan,

Thanks for that, it would be great if you had got some contacts for Craig.

We've been sorting through some stuff today, trying to get our house "in order". Because we are moving into a friends house when our sale goes through in a few weeks we are trying to sort things out. There's the stuff to be shipped pile, stuff we will need in the UK pile and the stuff we haven't got a clue about pile. I've spend a good couple of hours this afternoon shredding old documents. Do we need to keep anything relating to our mortgage as proof of regular payments?

Realistically when we first arrive how long should we book holiday accommodation for? How long do you think it will take to rent a place, is it a long process?

Thanks for your offer of help, we'll try not to bombard you with questions and become too much of a pain in the bum! ;)

Take care
Jane & Craig

Hi,

We're a small family moving to Melbourne in the new year and would love to be adopted. We are, Paul 37 IT project manager, Karen 34 Uni administrator and Mia aged 2.

We've lived in Melbourne 3 years ago before but are now coming back permanently in the new year, if we can sell our house, and hope to live in the bayside area (Mentone perhaps..) or maybe Frankston South. However, we'll also consider North of the city somewhere like Eltham. We already have permanent residency visas.

I don't think that we'll have loads of questions to ask but would like to bounce a few ideas of people already in Melb.

Cheers,

Paul :waving:

I wish we'd seen this thread before we moved out here - we don't have family over here and didn't know a single soul in Victoria, it can be a bit overwhelming (especially for the kids) so would've been great to have known we could've been adopted before we arrived!!!!!! :D

If anyone still checks this thread and wants us to adopt them (? ?) - think we're still classed as newbies (Aug 2007) - but our experiences may be more relevant than someone who has been here for years....?

We are a family of 4, 2 boys (7 and 9) and we are living at Lakeside in Pakenham (SE). If you are moving to the area, or just thinking about it, and want any info then give us a shout, would be more than happy to help.

Good luck to all those still waiting in the UK, it'll be you soon.

Doesn't look like anyone has used this thread for a while, but just in case.......

We (Tim, Claire, Alice (7) and Joe (5)) are arriving on 17th July. We haven't had a reccie or anything, so have booked up holiday accomodation in Dandenong (altho possibly changing to Doncaster), South Frankston and Ocean Grove during the first month to have a nose around. Beyond that, life is a mystery!

I'm an accountant, and will be looking for a job either teaching accountancy/management, or doing some real accounting in government/health sectors. Claire is a primary school teacher.

At the moment we are open to anywhere that is reasonably affordable and commutable from CBD, but particularly has plenty going on for families.

We would be hugely grateful to any potential adopters out there, or anyone near to our holiday destinations who would be happy to meet up for a coffee/beer, or any other random advice really!

Thanks Nick, Mo & family (inc The Boss). Nick seems rather outnumbered by the ladies in his life - good luck with that!

Have heard good things about Mornington, so will definitely check it out. Will shout when we are in the area.

Hi, I've only just joined this site although I've been here for 19yrs.
I think your idea is really good as when I came I knew no-one and the systems for everything were very different.
If I'd had a family/people to help me it would have saved lots of mistakes and even missing out on things. Good idea.
