Posted this on another forum, but would appreciate more feedback:

I came out on a working/holiday visa for a year (can extend if i like Oz). When I spoke to someone with regards to my visa and working in oz, she told me not to consider teaching or working with children (I'm qualified to teach nursery and younger) out here as it would require 3 chest x-rays, costing 70pound each. The reason for such x-rays is to prove that I don't have TB. Has anyone else heard about such x-rays, or was she talking a load of crap?

I would prefer to work with children rather than in administration (I've been applying for admin roles - have experience in this area of work). Because I don't know the curriculum out here, I would prefer to work as a teaching assistant rather than a teacher.

Can anyone shed any light on requirements of working with children. I know about police checks and having them wouldn't be a problem. I would appreciate any info as not having a job is really starting to get me down.

To get a Permanent Residency visa you will need to undergo health checks , including chest x-rays (for TB) you will NoT get a visa to stay if you fail your medicals.

I teach secondary and you need to be registered with Victorian Institute Teaching and have police check and fill in a health questionnaire. For nursery you will prob need your qualification recognised or to take a new one here.
Good Luck

Not sure if i want to apply for a permanent resident visa yet (will see if I want to in a few months)

Thanks for the quick reply

As a teaching assistant, I would still need a chest x-ray. How would I go about this in Oz? Any ideas? Also, what would be the cost of such an x-ray?

Thanks in advance
