hello everyone

We are three and a bit weeks in and the girls have their first day at school today so feeling very nervous for them.

We were lucky to be able to stay with friends when we arrived (Thank you the Forshaws) but now have a rental, not what I'd had in mind, not very 'neighbours' but a new three bed 'unit' which is clean and fresh, unlike some we viewed. The trouble is we decided on Frankston South and as soon as we had signed on the dotted line I was thinking - no I want Berwick!!! Too many choices to make I think and I've driven Mick mad with all the indecision!

I also have been offered a job and start on the 1st Oct working for Greater Dandenong city council, doing what I was doing in the UK which is great. I had applied on line in the UK and had an interview the week after we arrived. Mick has also been offered a job but he's in the UK at the moment so doesn't know yet, I'll wait for him to wake up before I ring!

Our container is in port and our stuff is been delivered on Thursday, can't wait to have a sofa (or any chair) to sit on.

We ordered our fridge, freezer and washing machine from Clive Peeters who offered the best price and gave great service so we'll be back there for the tele in a few weeks (when the house sale goes through...). We had bad luck trying to connect with Optus (no show - twice) so now have a telephone connection with Telstra and await (although NOT patiently) Broadband.

Still need to fine a doctor, vet, hairdresser (boy do I ever), dentist etc etc so any recommendations in the Frankston South / mount Eliza area would be great please.

OK my time on the library computer is at an ever. No or limited internet access stinks and has been one of the most difficult and isolating parts of this experience so far - no Britvics when you need it the most.

luv Debs x

Hi

Congratulations on achieving so much in such a short space of time!

You'll be all settled in by the time the Britvic meet comes along.

Good Luck in your new home.

Hi Deb, good luck in your new home, and congratulations on all you have achieved since being in oz. I have to say have you done everything on your own :o (as you said oh was still in uk), because that is brilliant, I don't think I could even get to the airport by myself let alone settle in a new country.

Hope you enjoy the months to come :D , Nadine xx

Thank you everyone for your lovely responses.

I do feel so much better now that our stuff has arrived, feels like home. Lots of our shipment was by quarantine, one bike and two pairs of shoes were apparently with-held for cleaning but there was no charge. My many wicker and seagrass baskets weren't a problem and neither were the garden tools, benches, outdoor plant pots (!), hoover etc

A few teething problems with the rental which I've struggled to get the agent to sort, and finally got dustbins today, but it is lovely.

The girls go to Frankston High and have had a brilliant two weeks, thank goodness.

Internet still an issue but we do have free dial up for three days while our broadband is sorted.

Mick arrived back on Sunday after three weeks in the UK so that's a major relief, he was here for our first three weeks and then had to go back to the UK, we've managed fine but it wasn't ideal.

Early days yet but so far the only boud of crying I've had is through absolute frustration with the Telstra/Optus fiasco.

I keep meeting locals who remark about the large number of Brits settling around here lately, so hi to you all out there!

Hope to meet some of you at the meet up, although may clash with the Motor GP which would be a problem for hubbie!

love Debs x

Hi :waving:

Don't worry about the meet up clashing with the Moto GP, its the following weekend.

Believe me there's no way on earth I could get my hubby to go the meet up if it clashed with him seeing his hero Valention Rossi live in the flesh. One of the reasons we moved out here in June was so that we could go to Phillip Island this year.

hi there debs

We to have been here for the same time living with rellies in northcote and like you i though ah my god the traffic and drivers are all mad and suffering badly from road rage. They beep at you for everything.

We still think were on a holiday as the first week all we did was socialise, but we cracked the whip got a car and after any bad viewings found a rental in werribee,(anyone living in that area).

We decided on there as the cbd is really expensive and went over to look at altona but hated all the industrial stuff,so yhe point cook which didnt really have much,so ended up in werribee which we both kinda liked,so for now thats where we will be?

I cant beleive you did it all on your own icant make any major decisions like you said your husband was demented, mine to i just dont know where to settle there are so many nice areas?

Anyway good luck with everything?
