OK, landed on 22 August so nearly completed our first month in Oz. We love it!
:D Pete started work the second week we arrived so the first week was spent buying a car, TFN, bank accounts, school for the boys - bit busy really but we managed it. We have a holiday rental in Pakenham for 8 weeks, we knew this was the area we wanted to settle in as Pete is working in Berwick and we fell in love with the Lakeside Development. Although we've not quite been here a month we've also taken the plunge and bought a house. The mortgage process with Westpac was a doddle and we move into our new home on 10 October. I know, buy in haste - repent at leisure, but we'd already decided in the UK that we liked Pakenham so don't regret the decision at all. We've packed a lot into our first month - again, I know it's the honeymoon period but we are all loving the experience so far. Our container is sat at the dock as I type, looking forward to having the familiar 'things' around us again. Our holiday rental has no landline so I'm getting a little tired of going to the library to update family and friends at home - especially as you can only book an hour a day (sometimes I do an hour in Pakenham and then drive to Berwick for an hour there - must be the scouser in me!!!) Looking forward to meeting some new faces at the meet in Mornington on the 6th. Di x |

Hi Di :waving: You should all be very proud of yourselves, you have done soooo much in the short time you've been here, well done! Its great that you are all settling in so well too and I'm sure that once you're in your own place and have your own things around you things will only get better. Good luck with the move and if you need a hand with anything just give us a shout. See you soon Debb x |

Yes, well done for settling in so well. We too are coming up for our first month too. We arrived on the 27th August and finally, just today, there's nothing left on the TODO list - hurray !! We had a month's appartment organised for our arrival and we move into our rental house in Balwyn on the 24th and can't wait. Kids all in school now and really enjoying it too, settling into work and first few friendships appearing with Aussie friends of UK friends. Life is beginning to get easier after the hecticness. Your container's done well to arrive already. Ours got packed on 8th August and is still in transit. |

Hi Pikachu Our container left the UK 5 weeks before we did! We paid for storage over here rather than in the UK, much cheaper. It was a nerve-racking time waiting for it to arrive safely in Melbourne but now it's here and cleared customs we can't wait to start unpacking! Aaaah, the "TODO" lists - had lots of those, in fact still have a few items we need to cross off but we need to be in our house before we can do that, then guess what? I can probably write a new one. :D Glad to hear you've settled in, it was such a relief when our boys told us they love it here. We think it's great but sometimes overlook the upheaval we've put the boys through. Our youngest is missing his nana terribly and gets really upset when he talks about her - his teacher has let him take in nanas email address and he now sends messages to her from school!! Di x |

What's your location?

Hi Di, Great to hear that you are settling in so well, and you have bought a new home!
I thought that the fact that your youngest can email his nana from school was a fantastic idea!! Just goes to show you how good the people/schools are in OZ. I hope that he finds things easier in the months to come. I just can't wait to get there myself. |

Hi True Blue, just wanted to say hello (even tho i'm a red!). All being well we should get to oz next year after just sending TRA off. We were also looking at Berwick/Pakenham areas. We have two girls 10 and 7 so just wondered what the place was like and house prices etc. We live in Wirral so would be funny if we were successful, meet up and look back at these messages and have a laugh!!!! :yeap: |

We live in Pakenham with two girls 12 & 8 and they love it here. House prices are going up all the time as there is an awful lot of infrastructure going on at the moment. It depends on your budget and what type/size of house you are looking for. There is a nice town for shopping with several supermarkets, chemists, clothes shops, cafes etc and a sports centre that is currently undergoing an expansion so that they have 8 basketball/netball courts instead of 4. There is also a swimming pool and gym at the same place. There is a train station in town with another station going on Lakeside (where we live) in the near future. http://www.lakesideatpakenham.com.au/ If you'd like any more info on Pakenham just give me a shout.
