A while ago people were asking about magazine articles on Expats and I said at the time that we did one back in 2004 for anyone that may find it interesting. Well as I've finally worked out how to display photos I thought I would post it in the update section (is this OK with Magazine copyright?) It's a little out of date now and I do sound very naive about some things but thought some, especially those who haven't moved may find some of it useful. I think you need to click on the photo to see it in a full readable size. Posted Image OK my 15 minutes of fame may just reach 16!! Louise |

Good article Louise. So three years later do you still prefer Melbourne to UK and do the kids now think of themselves as Aussies? |

I think you know the answer to the first question Bordy! My 9 yr old supports England and says he's English but wants to be Welsh so he can follow in Ryan Giggs footsteps! He wouldn't move back though unless he was signed up for Man Utd, Celtic or Oldham Athletic :footie: (???) - then he would buy me a house in the UK, Melbourne, Fiji and Hawai (don't know whether the wage would quite stretch to that with some of the clubs just mentioned!) My 11 year old is 'Australian' but her best friend in the WHOLE world lives in England. She thinks she can do a great imitation of English Accents now and does this to pick me up on my accent - much to the amusement of others around! Yes, we are still very happy with our decision and for us, it was the right choice and we have no regrets. Some people think they should have done it sooner but the children would have missed out on spending a lot of their young years with their grandparents. I imagine they will break my heart and move halfway around the world at some point as we did to our parents. But you have to let them do whats best for them as both sets of parents after visiting us every year are sure we have done now they have seen our lives. Louise |
