This time 12 months ago we were getting on to a plane to start our new life . There have been times when I never thought I would still be here . BUT and it is a big BUT I now wouldn`t swap it for all the tea in China. Its been a bumpy ride at times and stressful ,what with emotions ,missing things ,missing friends etc but I have to say that I have made some great new friends ,found new things ,and my emotions have stopped rolling. Since being here I have really chilled out in all aspects of my life and that is a big plus for me . I read about the Uk on tinternet and it seems that there are more shootings, more increase in petrol priced, more and more bad news on a daily basis. Now don`t get me wrong I am a Brit through and through and proud of it but for right here right now Australia is my home and as the saying goes` theres no place like home ` So if your still wondering ,hesitating or just scared about making that move ,don`t live on if`s ,but`s ,and maybe`s ,you`ll kick yourself if you don`t ,so come on make some new friends and lots more memories . Heres to the next fun filled year. Scouser :shoe: :shoe: |

some wise words at the end. At least you know there will be no if, but's or maybe's for you. I think the first year to 2 years are the most difficult as you are forever adapting and finding out new things. Things have started to settle down for us and long may that continue. It has always felt like home from day 1 and it may sound strange to say it now, but this is home now. |

Thanks Scouser I needed to read that today. My hubby is having serious wobbles lately. He has to resign in two weeks and is having major sleepless nights about everything. Like you say, will always wonder if we dont go. Karen :waving: |

It certainly does help those of us still in the visa waiting room. I have felt a little deflated of late, it takes such a bloody long time and hard to stay focused sometimes. My kids are both in their last year at school, one in primary and one in secondary. They are both making decisions on where to go next, and with us waiting for a visa it dosen't help as of course us parents are hoping that by the time they would start their next life change we will have left the country! There have been some scary posts lately with some not settling well and kids not liking their new schools etc. Don't get me wrong it's good not to view it all with rose tinted glasses but nice at the same time to read a positive post. I am terrified that we are doing the right thing. My kids are not unhappy, they go to good schools and we are living in a pretty good area. But and it's a huge BUT, I truly believe that all is getting worse here in England. I believe that it's just a matter of time before even nicer areas become blighted with all the crime and drugs etc that seems to be infesting itself everywhere. The hardest thing for us is deciding on where to head for in Aus. It's a major decision that could make us or break us! We are sure about Melbourne but clueless on where abouts. Reading on here helps as there are always suburb questions being answered but we maybe wont know until we've arrived and had a look for ourselves. Thanks Scouser for the encouraging words :D Tammy |

Hey Scouser Good to hear things are on the up and up, although in a perverse kind of way, I like reading that people have a few struggles along the way. It kind'a puts things into perspective, and gives a balanced view. We are trying to prepare ourselves for the changes and the ups and downs we'll encounter. We have agreed we'll give it a couple of years at least to try and settle in. Lets hope we can find our feet as quickly as you. Good luck for the next 12 months and beyond.... Jim & Kath PS. If not. There's always beer..... :have a beer: |

Hi Sue You always seem to put a post on when I need it most. We've had a few wobbles too. The ball's rolling and there's no turning back now. Everything's booked and paid for. Notice handed into jobs for both of us. My replacement started last week and I've got 6 weeks to train her. We suddenly got nostalgic over silly things. We even started to miss where we used to live in Kingston upon Thames. We forgot how nice it was and the walks along the river Thames on a visit there the other week. It soon went away when the traffic was gridlocked as we made our way home!!! No matter how much we wobble we're still coming no matter what to give it a try. We're still telling friends we're going for an adventure and we'll probably be back in a few years time. If we don't go now we'll always regret it so Melly here we come :D Gail |

Tammy You must have posted a nano second before me. Youv'e hit the nail on the head there. If your like us, there are many reasons to stay, but something's missing. If we start having any doubts, we just look through the posts on here. Hope you get some visa news soon. we are in the same boat too. |

Sue, A lot can happen in twelve months. Twelve months ago Australia was little more than a dream for us. I had just been made a partner in the practice I worked in and Kath's job was pretty secure. Also I had never heard of Britvics. Within this twelve months, I've secured a job in Aus, Kath has found out they are closing the ward down she has worked on for 5+ years and I found Britvics. We are only just starting our adventure, but thanks to people like you sharing your experiences and wisdom, it has somehow made our decision an easier one to make. It is three weeks today we make the big move, and start that huge emotional rollercoaster of missing those things familiar to us but also exploring all that Australia has to offer. So here is to the next twelve months and all that it may it throw at all of us  It'll be fun whatever happens. B) Matt |

Hi Sue. Great post. we've just celebrated our first year and BOY WHAT A RIDE!!! So many ups and downs but I have to say I wouldn't swap it. Some stuff is more perfect than we could ever have dreamt of and some stuff is pretty tough but we're so proud that we took the plunge and we have a future to look forward to and so many adventures to be had. the best bit about moving is meeting new people and some of the friends I've made this year have been my salvation and if I hadn't jumped on that plane I might never have met them. So a big 3 cheers to everyone who takes the plunge and if you stay for 6 months, 6 years, or for ever you can look back and say WE DID IT!!! Good luck to everyone on their way over and to those here who are settling in or who are settled and I hope everyone finds their own bit of happiness! Jacky |

From one scouser to another............. Glad to hear that your first year has been a success. We're nearly 3 months in and boy have we had a blast. Met some great people, at the same time some odd ones! Not been hit by homesickness yet but really miss family and close friends. Looking forward to being 12 months into our journey, we'll have overcome birthdays, Christmas, you know - all the times you surround yourself with the ones you love. Di x PS: Red or Blue? |
